Has anyone figured out the secret to getting time to slow down? I just don't know where the days, weeks, and months go anymore. It honestly makes me sad to see so many big stages in life passing by. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm sure @emilybrinkman_gen6 can relate right now because she and Jaymes will be getting married in less than two weeks! I'm so excited to head to Ohio to help celebrate these two!!
Today I'm sharing a few sneak peeks from Elena and Joseph's recent Illinois wedding, including this classic ring shot. I love getting a simple, timeless photo of my couple's rings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which leads me to a question - Brides, how many of you soldered your rings together? I've been thinking about it but haven't pulled the trigger. Let me know if you love or hate yours!
Guys. I have had some of the best sessions and weddings this summer and I am just so behind on sharing all of them with you here on Instagram! And well, Facebook too. Social media can be exhausting at times. So here's to getting back in to the swing of it with a post from Ben and Jamie's joy filled Kentucky engagement session.
Another small town Iowa wedding with a stunning church, portraits in the field, and the absolute best people. I love days like these! Thank you Sydney and Austin for trusting me with your day. It resulted in another friendship with my kind of people. 💛
The older I get the more sentimental I get. Can anyone relate? These days I treasure the places and things that mean something to my family. For many of my wedding couples, they treasure the land and farms that are a part of their family's history. This weekend all of my immediate and extended family on one side of my family will be gathering on my grandma's farm for her 85th birthday. We're going to have our own family session in the field where my grandma and grandpa first welcomed their herd of Red Angus cows. I can’t wait!
BRIDAL GOALS. Isn’t my dear friend Mariah stunning?! I knew Brandon was going to lose it the first time he saw her and he didn’t disappoint! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Before the ceremony we took Mariah and her bridesmaids over to our little town square. I've always thought our limestone courthouse would be the perfect backdrop for photos, and I'm so glad it worked out for this day. It was rather fitting that we grabbed a few shots at this staple spot, in the middle of our bustling town square, because this little town means so much to Brandon and Mariah. They have been the best neighbors and friends that we could have asked for when we moved to the little town of Winterset! So thankful they asked me to be a part of their day!
Two years ago this week I walked in to my boss' office at Oklahoma State and gave my two weeks. I'd been working on my photography business for a few years at that point but I knew the time had come for me to take a risk and make the leap to full-time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At the time, Marcus had just made the decision to leave his coaching position at Butler and take a new job with Zoetis in Des Moines, taking us from two hours apart to seven. When I told my parents I wanted to quit my job and pursue my business full-time, I could tell they were a bit nervous. They have always been extremely supportive of my aspirations, but they were understandably a little concerned. Why leave a great (safe) job and take on the risk of self employment? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Marcus and I thought long and hard about the decision. After much prayer, we decided it was now or never. Time to take a risk and see where it takes me. Here I am two years later and loving this life we have built here in Iowa and feeling extremely grateful for the amazing clients who have been on this journey with me the last two years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Starting a business can be scary, risky, and honestly - not for everyone. Don't forget that behind the scenes of these fun Instagram posts are long hours, tears shed, and very stressful days. But if you're passionate about what you do, like I am, those days are worth it. Thank you to everyone who continually supports this dream of mine. You have shaped my life and my business more than you will ever know. I will never take your support for granted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cheers to two years!
How is it possible we are almost half way through June?? Laura and Austin kicked off June for me and are the first of three weddings this month. What a way to start! I'm particularly excited about editing their reception photos because y'all, it was a PARTY! I know I have some super fun photos of Austin's grandma out on the dance floor, and some hilarious shots on the packed party bus! Thanks for a great time you two! . Anyone else looking forward to upcoming weddings they know are going to be a party?? I know my next wedding this weekend will be just as fun!
I love when my photographs are able to capture the little details that describe the people in them. One of the things that makes Haley unique are her beautiful, blonde curls. (I'm honestly very jealous of her hair!) Some of my other favorite photos of Haley included focusing on the way she wrinkles her nose when she smiles. Branding sessions are quickly becoming a new favorite for me!
I'm home from Ohio and cannot stop looking at Jennifer and Jesse's wedding photos! What a weekend! I have absolutely loved getting to know these two better over the last year. They continually treat me with kindness and their whole family was a joy to work with this weekend. Thank you @jennifer_ann_7 for trusting me to be a part of your day and for becoming a lifelong friend along the way!
I’ve shot a lot of sessions and weddings in the last few weeks and every single one of them has been so fun! The days are long but I’m having the best time with my couples. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Elena and Joseph’s Illinois engagement session was the first time I had met these two in person. I loved riding around with them as we drove all through their little farming community and hearing all about how their farming lifestyle brought these two together. 💛
Two weddings, two engagement sessions, two videos, two client phone calls, and prep for this weekend's wedding in Ohio are a few of the things on today's to do list. Just wanted to take a minute to thank you all for your incredible support of my business. It's going to be a busy day but it's starting with thankfulness for every one of you who follows and supports me. Now here's to a (hopefully) productive day!
If there was one word to describe Chad and Chauncy's wedding, I think it would be COLOR! I love that every wedding day is unique and describes each couple and I had a feeling their day would be just that. Chauncy has been showing me photos of her dress and design ideas for awhile now and it all came together so well. She isn't afraid to go against the norm and I love that. Chad and Chauncy also decided not to have a bridal party, which I obviously love because I did the same. Overall, the entire day was so relaxed and fun, and these two were the best to work with!
I knew Pennsylvania would be beautiful but goodness, these views! Now add in a pasture full of cows and such a fun couple, the long trip (and delayed flights) were definitely worth it! Thank you for having me out to your place, Adam and Ashley. I can’t wait for their Maryland wedding this summer! Also, fun fact, Adam’s address is Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. That’s where they have the annual Groundhog Day celebration and wait to see if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow!
When I became a bride myself, I knew that outside of the photos of Marcus and I, this photo right here would be one of the ones I cherished the most. I had been envisioning it in my head for quite awhile. When I first started chatting with my wedding photographer, @jenneferwilson, I told her overall I wanted more importance placed on photos with our loved ones. I didn't need some of the photos that are trendy right now in the industry, like my dress hanging perfectly from a tree or a photo of Marcus buttoning his jacket (and probably faking it just for the photo.) I wanted the real interactions between Marcus and I and our cherished family members. To really focus on our family, we chose to have two wedding day celebrations, our wedding ceremony on Friday with only our family, and the party on Saturday with all of our friends. I'll go in to more detail on this in future posts. Brides, tell your wedding photographers what kind of images are important to you. No, you don't need to give them a huge, specific shot list to capture, but express to them the vision you have for your day and how we can help document it. So tell me, if you're already married, what are some of the photos that mean the most to you? And if you aren't married, what photos do you envision being most important to you?
Chauncy and Chad's wedding is just over a week away! Lately she's been sending me photos of all the things she's been working on – a horse trailer bar, her floral decorations, her custom wedding dress, and so much more! I love chatting with my brides throughout the entire planning process and building so many new friendships. One of my favorite parts about being a wedding photographer!
Every time I asked Jess to look at Brook, he lit up with the sweetest grin! These two drove all the way Nebraska yesterday to be our model couple for my mentor session with @sandhillsblue and well as you can see, they couldn't have been more perfect.
This group literally had me laughing all day! One of my favorite weddings to date because of Andrew, Haley and their fun bridal party. The day went off without a hitch, even though wind and rain continued to threaten our plans. But Andrew and Haley continually trusted me and I love how everything turned out. I can't wait to start editing the rest of their gallery!
