Generally, in most of my mosaics I include some kind of text. In the past, I have hand painted the letters on a ceramic tile using a CRAZY and time consuming system of cutting out stencils and then painting the letters by hand, then I spray paint each tile with a clear glaze — and the final step is I bake each tile for 30 minutes to seal the paint. And still, the letters sometimes get chipped away. After a lot of research and the help from a very patient team at @thepapercutfactory in Tel Aviv I have learned all about laser cutting. It’s a game changer! For this most recent project I had all of my letters cut out of an acrylic black material with a laser cutting machine. Not only do they look better but they will last longer. Anyway, just another reason why it’s important to be open to new technologies and explore how to incorporate them into your practice.
🥁DONE! I spent May and June installing a 23ft (7m) x 6ft (1.8m) heart-themed mosaic for the residential house of @saveachildsheart in Holon, Israel. SACH is an Israeli-based international humanitarian charity at Wolfson Medical Center providing life-saving heart treatment and follow-up care for children from developing countries regardless of their religion, gender, or nationality -- an unbelievable organization. The mosaic itself is located outside in the garden of the residential house where the kids stay with parents, chaperones and volunteers before and after their surgeries and where the staff's offices are. This project has been in the works since •2017• when @brifowler and I first met and she took it from concept to completion. I am happy to say the mosaic is now finished and this video documents our collaborative process. I met children and families from Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Kurdistan, and even the Soloman Islands. We all worked together to get this done, after all, art is a universal language. Many thanks to the team at Save A Child's Heart and coordinator of the project Marissa on the grounds for this opportunity, and to @gwforisrael for raising the funds through donations and campus bake sales (that's a lot of 🧁🧁🧁sold to students with the munchies) to support this piece. Thanks to friends @chantal_lionheart, @m4ital, @rotembagdadi_ , Amir and all the helping hands who assisted me in creating this mosaic! Video shot by @2adamc
