Many years ago the first ever food truck I ate from in Sri Lanka was the Rolling Grill in 2010. Started by a chef who came back from the Middle East and bought his food truck dream to life. This was before Marine Drive had a pavement or even street lights. He would park somewhere along the stretch and serve up amazing burgers and wraps. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In 2011 (if I’m correct) tragedy stuck when he was stuck in the back of the head by a piece of metal debris that feel from the train that whizzed past behind him. He died instantly and the Rolling Grill was no more and thus the food truck scene was quiet for a while. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There have been many food trucks that have parked alongside Marine Drive, such as Jigsaw Hotdogs. The road is not used to its full potential. Ideally, Marine Drive should be littered with bars, clubs and restaurants, but from December 2018 we have started with a row of food trucks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Many of them serve up the usual burgers and wraps but a few like to challenge the norm. First up is @hspfoodie which does a variety of “Snack Packs” which is cheesy fries served with flavourful boneless chicken and their special sauces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I tried the BBQ which has succulent grilled chicken served on top of crispy cheesy fries and a traditional bbq sauce. I also had some of their Firecracker which has a hot sauce and crispy fried chicken. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The packs come in 3 sizes, small starting at LKR 300, medium at LKR 480 and large at LKR 600 plus. Pictured is the medium which is the ideal portion for one. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
