This was a terrible, terrible cake. Looks beautiful, right? I know. Unfortunately, after the chocolate stops oozing beautifully in front of your eyeballs (that part truly is beautiful) and you put it in your mouth, the cake itself is rubbery and flavorless. In fact it's so dry and floury that I needed to chug water while eating it to wash it down. God this was horrible. The molten part was really tasty - but the rest was so bad I would never make it again, nor would I suggest anyone does. The one thing I will say about it is it calls for a really interesting baking technique I had never seen before. I don't want to talk about this stupid cake anymore so if you want to read about it search for "Magical Molten Chocolateย Cake" on Food52. But seriously - in case my stance on this is unclear - do not make this cake. I know you want to try it. Don't do it. And DEFINITELY don't make it for someone special on their birthday. Or any occasion. You'd be better off just serving your guests single cups of flour straight out of the bag and calling it a night.
