This safari wasn’t about chasing sightings. It was about staying back and giving back. 🌿 In the middle of the jungle, far from lenses and noise, I wasn’t looking for a leopard. I was carrying water for one. At the wildlife nature resort I stayed at, jungle conservationists have created a small natural pond deep inside the forest. A simple water source, but one that changes everything. Leopards and other wildlife come here often to drink, so they don’t have to wander into human habitats searching for water. Less conflict. More coexistence. Nature, protected quietly. This wasn’t just a fun activity. It was a naturalist-led conservation programme that leaves you with a certified feeling of having done something real for wildlife, not just observed it. A couple of hours later, we returned to the same spot. Hidden close to a tree was a camera trap, placed the way conservationists do, to respectfully monitor wildlife without disturbing their rhythm. And that’s when the magic happened. On the screen, I saw who came to drink the water I had poured. A beautiful melanistic leopard, moving silently, confidently, completely at home. 🐆🖤 Set in the lap of the Western Ghats, near the Goa–Karnataka forest borders. No signal. No screens. No distractions. Just trees reaching for the sky, birds calling from every direction, and sunrises and sunsets that slow you down. Sometimes, protecting wildlife doesn’t look heroic.
