SA1. watched like every single travel related video out there (the good and bad)
2. started going on solo trips to my closest city (London) to navigate public transport alone until it became second nature
3. started making very in depth lists of packing must haves, accumulating all info from other travellers/ their videos
4. gradually started buying small cheap travel essentials so I didn’t have to spend hundreds all in one go
5. everyday I got dressed I’d think about it I would take each piece traveling with me/ if it was comfortable during the day and if I liked it enough
6. started showering as quick as possible to get used to the hostel showers and not hogging them lol
7. messaged other travellers for their insight/ tips they had for me (lots of you already message me the same thing and it’s a full circle moment ☺️)
8. researched into WorldPackers volunteering positions so I had a list of some to apply to once I turned 18
9. saved as much money as possible, was very frugal but knew if I wanted to travel cheap I had to be
10. didn’t learn how to drive because that meant spending way too much money on lessons/ car/ insurance when I was leaving the country and needed all my money for traveling
11. started this account a month prior to leaving, gave me a community where I could ask questions and befriend other young travellers as well as share my journey from the very very start!
12. sold lots of my clothes on vinted to not only make extra money but I couldn’t take all my clothes traveling so might as well sell them
13. opened a travel debit card (like revolut)
14. researched and bought travel insurance/
15. started learning common phrases for the country I was first visiting
16. saved loads of places on google maps (hostels, main transport links, attractions, shops)
17. scrolled through Hostelworld looking at hostels when bored and saved the good ones
18. went into every backpack/ camping store to test out different backpacks multiple times

The Solo Table Theory is an idea about how sitting alone at a restaurant or cafe can improve your presence and confidence, rather than make you seem lonely. You’re at your own table. You’re comfortable with your self. You’re doing it by choice.
I still struggle with the insecurity of being by myself, even though I do it all the time. Most times I find it easy, sometimes it’s extremely difficult. But every time I do it, I get the chance to ground myself and give myself to find the confidence to just sit with being “me”
Someone asked me what’s the longest I’ve been “traveling alone”, without a companion or someone you’re with. I answered two weeks, to their surprise.
And I think it comes with experience or temperance, the act of sitting alone is the confidence that doesn’t need to announce itself.
