So amazed by the nourishing energy and vulnerability shared in the diversity of voices last week at @wingonwoandco ‘s last event of the Homeward Bound Series at @project.reach 🌈 Excited to have been part of so many brave voices who shared their own connections to "memory, identity, and resilience across the diaspora." I gave a presentation of my illustration work, something I've never thought of as impactful but more a fun, side stream of me fooling around, but the response from everyone last Thursday night was really heartwarming. I hope we can continue to hold spaces Iike this, and one way to do that is to support @wingonwoandco in their final week of fundraising to continue creating spaces, opportunities, programs like these! 🔥💖🔥💖🔥 . . . .

#SURJNYC ‘s monthly Anti-Mass Incarceration meeting is tonight at 6:30 at Project Reach in Chinatown . How do we move beyond #decriminalization to #reparations for those impacted by #drugpolicy ? Join the AMI campaign for a discussion on #marijuanalegalization , the #drugwar , and our role. We will also give updates on ongoing campaign work and calls to action
This month's chapter meeting will draw on the leadership of the #MovementforBlackLives , among others to explore the case for paying #reparations to Black people . We will dig into how we as white people can do this both in the here and now and in bigger, structural ways in the future . We'll explore the meaning of reparations for white people with different class positions . Bring your questions, passions, and cash to this conversation! If you're new to SURJ, you are encouraged to come to orientation starting at 6pm

Need to plug into #antiracism organizing and conversations? In the wake of the NYPD’s murder of #SaheedVassell on April 4 in Crown Heights, this month’s chapter meeting will focus on what to do instead of calling the cops–particularly in #gentrifying communities. This is the fourth police killing in the city in the past nine months (the others being #DwayneJeune , #MiguelRichards , and #MarioSanabria ), and part of the long history of the #NYPD ’s mistreatment and killings of people with disabilities and/or in emotional distress. Orientation for new members will take place before the meeting from 6:00-6:30pm.
