Howdy folks! Lucy and I have a question for all our friends in the process of training their fur children. Have you found yourself becoming frustrated during training because your dog keeps losing interest in the treats you’re offering? Well this is a common problem with a super simple solution! ~Do not feed your dog right before a session~ It is best to have a hungry dog during training so they will focus on you and the food you’re offering. If you usually feed your pup dry kibble you can use that as his/her reward for each correct behavior. Once they lose interest in the kibble it’s time to switch to a higher value treat. Which brings me to today’s tip: •THE DOG DETERMINES THE TREAT• During any training session you should always have an array of treats on hand ranging from low value to high value. But not all dogs like the same food! You may have to buy small amounts of different treats to figure out what your doggo likes the most. Some dogs are not food driven and would rather have belly rubs. If that’s the case then offer attention instead of treats. You ask for a behavior- the dog gives correct behavior- you reward with a pat on the head. The more challenging the behavior, the more attention you give as a reward! ~ If you have any questions please comment down below, or send a private message. Feel free to tag us in pictures of your dog doing his or her favorite trick and let us know what their high value treat is! If you found today’s tip helpful please give this picture a like and share it with your friends. I’ll be back next Thursday with another fun post!! #happyhoundpetsitting #happyhounddogtraining #dogtrainingtips #dogdeterminesthetreat
