Of course, my lovely border collie photography assistants were in the yard when I walked outside with my camera. They thought action shots were needed and so they provided all sorts of opportunities for me. 😉
Oh. Hi. Glad you’re back home. I was just wiggling the handle on the garage door. Wondering if you had any of those apples I ate yesterday...
I took this photo from inside my bedroom- through the glass. I never would have imagined that one day I’d look outside my bedroom window and see a new calf, that I’d wake up and hear cows calling to one another across a field or that I’d run outside in the middle of the night because I could tell by the sound of a cow’s bellowing that it was distressed. One thing I know for sure: You never know where you might end up in life when you say yes. 😉
This horse was not going to budge tonight, for my sunset shot, because she was convinced my camera was a bag of carrots. 😉
Doesn’t he have the most beautiful eyelashes? I’m so in love with this little guy! He came over to say hi but changed his mind and ran back over to his mom/Ginny. 🐮
This old girl is like the leader/head honcho/queen bee of all the cows on the ranch. She’ll walk through a crowd and they’ll move aside, creating an open pathway for her, to let her through to eat. She also decides what part of the ranch everyone will be hanging out at for the day. She leads and they all follow. I’ve often wondered how she obtained this position. Did she simply believe she was the leader or was there a vote under a full moon one night? I’ve seen this same type of thing with the other animals. One acts more dominant and gets to rule over the others or there’s a fight to see who wins the role of Ruler Over All. My father used to tell me growing up, “Be a leader and not a follower.” Of course, I had no idea how to make that happen in my skinny, gangly, awkward younger self. But living here over the years, I’ve discovered it’s really just a mindset of believing. These animals don’t look in a mirror and analyze themselves critically. They just believe they are leaders and behave in a way that has others respecting them. Let me encourage you today as you head out into the world. Believe in yourself without listening to the voice of self doubt. Simply walk out into the world knowing you are the leader of your dreams and go after what you want- like this wise beauty. 🐮
Everything is so green again! I love that it’s not 90 degrees outside and I can enjoy this view. ❤️ It’s equally wonderful that Betty, the wonder dog, has decided to sit beside me and not chase the horses.
My face today... Cowboy has an old truck that he uses to drag around his trailer with welding equipment. He is working at the barn and cannot hear the horn going off in this truck every 20 minutes. So, in order to stop the one long, blaring noice that migraines are made of - I have to go outside and press the horn a few times for it to stop. Hence the face.
Two words describe this girl: Beautiful & Strong. She runs like the wind and is fearless. She’s happy to greet you then move along as she’s got her own agenda. Horses like this beauty are poetry in motion.❤️
Let’s start your Monday off right with a day old baby cow. 🤗
I saw this shy girl out back so I ran back inside for my camera. Isn’t she sweet?!
When the day is done...❤️
So, last November I took a flying leap down the stairs. Cowboy watched the whole performance from the bottom of the stairs and couldn’t believe I could get up without a gurney. After a MRI, I was told by two surgeons that I needed back surgery and a hip replacement. Whoa. Seriously?! I decided as I sat in the second surgeon’s office that I was going to do everything in my power to help myself without painkillers and surgery. So for the past several months, I’ve been seeing a fantastic acupuncturist and working with a physical therapist and personal trainer. I had lovely souls like @robbiebrinkley @gregorybrinkley discuss vitamins and supplements so I could strengthen myself. I did my best to cut sugar (quite difficult for a sugartarian!😉) and eat a healthier vegetarian diet. Several months later, I’m happy to report that I’m much stronger and feeling 95% better. When I told my orthopedic surgeon in Ft. Worth I was putting off the surgery he smiled and said, “Well, just know all roads lead back to me...” He may be right but I don’t plan on traveling down that road for another 30+ years. 😜 I wanted to let you know this because there may be someone else out there who feels backed in a corner —just know there are always options. ❤️
Took grandma on a cart ride on the ranch tonight. We turned the corner and spotted this beautiful rainbow. Katie, our border collie, jumped out of the back of the cart and raced to the water. It looked like she was checking out the rainbow reflection too. 😉
What a sunset! So thankful I decided to pull myself away from my laptop and walk outside!
I can now cross Big Bend off my bucket list! 🤗
