This kitchen was part of a whole house project in Meridian-Kessler. We removed a closet to enlarge and reconfigure the space for a more efficient layout. The cabinetry is by @kraftmaid. Design by Ashley Fruits. . . . The house was built in 1922, and boasts one of the largest trees in the neighborhood--which if you know Meridian-Kessler, you know that's saying something. The oak tree measures over 16' in circumference, which according to growth charts makes it around 320 years old--putting it's origin to around 1700. At that time, the main inhabitants in the area would have been Native Americans. Of the entry hall spaces we've renovated over the years, this is one of my favorites. The home, built in 1972, definitely needed something more dramatic to fit with the rest of the updates we made during our whole house project there (the same house as the indoor hot tub room previously posted). . . The floor is a combination of large format slate, calcutta gold, and black marble tiles. The entry doors were custom made from solid mahogany. The views from the dining room show the subtle sheen pattern of the wall covering, as well as the dark ebony stained white oak hardwoood floors. . . We also replaced a poorly built main stair handrail with a new volute rail and iron balusters. . . On this chilly day I'm feeling a tad jelly of the clients we built this indoor hot tub room for. Such spaces must withstand the harshest conditions you can imagine in the built environment--with extremes of temperature and humidity equal to a steam shower. For that reason, for the most part the room had to be built to the same standards. The vessel itself is gunite, with the rest of the floor and walls faced in a combination of slate, glass mosaic, and porcelain tiles. A powered skylight offers venting when the steam gets excessive, and the ceiling is pitched and faced lap cedar. We framed a bench below the window and capped it with teak. . . . It's a nice place to retreat with a glass of wine and look out the large French doors onto the chilly landscape. . . After and Before photos of our Traders Point transformation. I've posted this one before, but wanted to show it paired with how it looked before we started. The home was built in 1989, and was easily one of the ugliest in the neighborhood (and likely most poorly built). Originally, the homeowners reached out to me to built a deck and some bookcases. Several years and multiple phases later, we've completely transformed the house from foundation to ridge beam--inside and out. We never did built that deck though. 😅 . . . . . This phase included replacing 2 poorly built main level bay windows with a new bump out, out-swing French doors, and a standing seam copper roof. A freestanding tub alcove. The tub is by @mti_baths, filler is the Fairfield by @newportbrass, and the wall is covered in @bisazzaofficial Summer Flowers, a glass mosaic mural. This was such a fun project, and part of a whole house renovation on Washington Boulevard in Meridian-Kessler. The mural comes in roughly 12x12 sheets, in panels 3 sheets wide by 9 sheets high.... each sheet is numbered and installed in order to created the image. . . Search YouTube for "Installing Bisazza Glass Mosaic Tile" and you'll find a video of the installation. This was a few years ago... and I have a little more gray hair these days. 😅 . .
