Sometimes I have to dial it back and think about what it was like to be a teenager. I had my fair share of the internal/external changes, peer pressure, and trying to keep up with the jones-es. It was tough. I find myself having more and more compassion for kids coming up these days. With things like social media and smartphones, that pressure has only compounded. I was working with a group of girls that had no idea that there were apps that you could quickly shave down your body from a 6 to a 4 and no-one would know. I let them know that I've posted pictures where you would think I was in Cali, but I was sitting on my couch #latepost . We talked about the pressure they feel and their experience with FOMO. It just bothers me sometimes that this is where we are. I don't want them or anyone else getting too caught up in this social media stuff because if it goes away, we'll be screwed. I'm finding more and more people that are wrapped up in how they are perceived via social media and losing interest in finding their authentic selves. If you find yourself relying on this stuff for your sense of self-worth, take a break! Go out with friends and have an undocumented great time & conversation. Affirm yourself daily. Enjoy things that noone knows about. Do things for more than the gram, do them for you.
I got really quiet and amazing things started to happen. When I removed the noise, the distractions, the comparisons, the fear, and literally anything that didn’t serve my greater purpose - my entire life changed. I stopped talking about what I wanted to do or was going to do, and I just did it. I stopped following everyone else’s journey, and got incredibly focused on mine. I stopped posting every gig and move, and became more present and intentional in my spaces. I got serious about my faith and surrendered myself to Gods plan (which was sooo much better than mine) and realized that none of this is about me, but about serving the people/territory HE needs me to. You may know this, but more than anything, I’m convinced this entrepreneur life is a spiritual journey. ✨ This picture was captured during one of my proudest moments yet as an entrepreneur - a sold out Dynamic Mindfulness Teacher Training. I’ll never forget riding in the car post-training with @jenniferelle101 of @drivechangenyc and reflecting on how things went. 2 days prior to that training (like most other bigger events I facilitate), I was curled up in a ball in my bed convinced I couldn’t do it. #ButGod I literally asked God in the mornings of my training to step in and do it for me because I wasn’t skilled and strong enough to do it on my own. He most definitely did. I really don’t care what you believe, I just want you to know - there is a power out there far greater than you and when you can understand that and connect to it - you’ll never want to live a day without it. Thank you God for this journey and the amazing days to come. Without you, I am nothing. I live to serve you. #Gratitude #CreatingGreatDays 📷: @ishagainesphoto

Demonstrating the importance of accessibility and providing options during teaching! Oftentimes, I get into spaces with mixed ages, abilities, willingness, and even interest when it comes to trying something like mindfulness for self-care. If you only know one approach, and no one is interested in that approach, what do you do? This reasons for more than just leading mindfulness. Whether you're in a classroom, boardroom, or yoga room? (lol) you're going to have a variety of people who all want something different or need to learn different ways. It's important to consider how you can make your teachings more accessible and inclusive for whoever steps in that room. ・ ・ ・ This group did a great job of using Trauma Informed Language and framing for leading mindfulness practices. I'm so proud of them! If you're interested in learning more about these practices for your personal stress resilience and how to teach those you interact with, join me for Dynamic Mindfulness Teacher Training!
