Finally on the board in 2018. Only took 14 shots to put 2 doves on the ground. They sure were tasty in the poppers we grew in our garden. #hunting #photography #doves #wholefoods #wheredoesyourfoodcomefrom #eatlocal #nature #natureprovides #getoutside #roamingwild
Permission. I have a son who is hooked on the outdoors and loves hunting and fishing. He really enjoys hunting doves and geese. We had the opportunity to hunt a section of private property and I have been asking the landowner for permission the last 3 seasons. We are always respectful, pick up after ourselves, check in if we are bringing a friend and offer to help out if needed. This year my son asked when we can start hunting on the farm and I told him that we will need to check with the landowner before the season. He asked when I would do that and this year I told him I wouldn’t, and that if he wanted to hunt with me he would need to ask if it was ok. So we pulled into the homestead, greeted the owner and I let him know that my son would like to ask him a question. He did a great job asking if it would be alright if we hunted doves and geese on his farm. The landowner did lay down a couple of ground rules but was pleased to hear from the boy. So much so that he offered to allow him to hunt deer under the mentorship program and even offered a rifle for use. No email, no phone call, no text message but good old fashion face to face and a handshake. I think it’s good to let the youth speak to landowners, understand the rules and follow through. Really proud moment for a father and a great learning opportunity for my son. Don’t sell the kids short and don’t assume that approaching a landowner for permission will be an immediate know. Be respectful and polite and it will carry a lot of weight. On a side note my son was also able to gain permission a private pond the same day!
Took the old faithful @browningfirearms pump out for some doves between batches of rain. I want to add a semi to the collection but this pump will always get some time in the field and be a solid backup. Pump, semi or both? #hunting #doves #shotguns #outdoors #roamingwild
The rain and hot, humid weather has been relentless this summer in the mid-Atlantic making it tough to get out and practice. I’ve tried to make each session count and really work on my form and release. This summer is all about quality over quantity. 🏹 #practice #archery #hoyt #shooting #makethemostofit #hunting #whitetail #elk #muledeer #roamingwild
