Our farm specializes in Shetland sheep, a heritage breed that is known for their exceptional wool. Products include: fleeces, handspun yarn, roving, felted and knitted items. Our next farm is Holly Ridge Farm, N4324 410th Street, Ellsworth, WI Holly Ridge Farm located on a beautiful hilltop in western Wisconsin is home to Leicester Longwool sheep and a couple of Toggenburg goats. The Leicester Longwool is a heritage breed and its fleece is prized by hand spinners for its curl and lustrous beauty. Come see the animals and take a moment to stroll through the orchard and 1.5 acres of prairie flowers and grasses. P – Yarn, roving, raw fleece. Next we head to Wisconsin to Black Cat Farmstead, N3049 Nelson Lane, Stockholm, WI 54769 Black Cat Farmstead raises Icelandic, Shetland and Gotland cross sheep. We grow flax and hand process it for linen. The fiber studio and store, in a nineteenth-century house, has farm-raised wool (both primitive-style raw fleeces, washed and dyed fiber is available), flax, handspun yarns, woven goods, spinning wheels and other textile tools for sale. Credit cards accepted. Demonstrations of spinning, flax dressing, and weaving. The next stop on the tour is Windswept Hill Farm, 20800 Ahern Blvd, Farmington, MN Visitors of all ages are welcome at this family farm, remodeled with salvaged materials into an inspirational place for living, learning, and creating. Our sheep live in the landmark MondriBarn, built in the de Stijl style of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. The friendly flock is mainly Blue-faced and English Leicester with a select number of Shetland/Leicester X. Our partnership with Ewetopia Mill in LaFarge, WI this year has produced lusciously colored “MondriYarn” in finished yarns, spinning rovings, and felting-sized balls. Our feed room has been transformed into the annual Tour Store, and we have a weekend of educational and artistic programs planned, rain or shine. Stroll the grounds, play a yard game, and enjoy a dish of homemade apple crisp or one of our other goodies. Relax in the tent while you make a wool angel to take home as a gift. Also check out the outdoor furniture created with carpenter Rich West from 100% repurposed redwood. The farm includes horses, a flock of very friendly pet hens and young chicks hatched four weeks ago, a pond of pet koi fish, and Brick the Read-to-Me Dog. Be sure to stop at the Little Free Library at the end of the driveway on your way in or out. We are the oldest full-service custom fiber mill in MN, spinning fiber into the most luxurious yarn available. We have a fiber CSA, raw fiber, roving, yarn & garments for sale in our store. Frosty Acres Alpacas is located in the tiny town of Frost in south-central Minnesota. Luckily you don't have to travel all the way to Frost. Charlie and Sven and their owner, Jessica will be @clearspringfarm for the tour. They will have alpaca yarn, hand knit mittens and extreme alpaca socks for sale. The third farm on our tour is Dresow Family Farm. 10900 Garfield Ave, Lonsdale, MN. Visit their sustainably raised cormo and cormo cross sheep, as well as cattle, chickens, pigs, a horse, dogs, cats and rabbit. The cormo breed provides super soft, fine fiber for next-to-skin clothing. Fibers are white, brown or dyed using natural plant dyes.
