Why do babes spit up so much?
There is something called the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES), this LES sits right at the end of your Esophagus leading into the stomach. Think of the LES as a round doorway into your stomach. Usually this doorway muscle is closed unless the person is eating. In babies, the LES muscle is not yet fully mature. Instead of the doorway being tightly closed and keeping food from coming back up, it is weak and milk can easily come back up from the stomach. The LES is normally developed by 12-14 months. This is why it is considered unusual if your baby’s reflux continues past 18 months!
Thank you @imperfectpenelopy for my “Woodland Dream” package! 💕Their burp cloths and bibs are made of heavyweight, double sided, microfiber terry cloth. This piece of art is termed, “The Orangutan in the Kitchen” or maybe it should be “The Puking orangutan.” Photo credit goes to my two year old niece playing with my phone!🤢😂 I was in my second trimester and still vomiting daily! ATTENTION SMOKING MAMMAS: 1. My heart goes out to you, we all have bad habits. 2. Quitting smoking prior to pregnancy or during is the single best thing you can do for your baby. Try quitting... even if it is for the thirtieth time... try again. 3. My baby was 2 weeks when I had my first event where a dress was appropriate. I thought I came well prepared to participle yet still take care of my newborn in a button down dress. When my baby girl became fussy I confidently pulled a coverup around my shoulders and went to unbutton my front... THE BUTTONS WERE FAKE!!! Who puts fake buttons on a dress!? 😂I hadn’t even tested them out when I slipped the dress on that evening. 🤦🏻♀️By now my baby girl was very hangry and we were making quite the scene with all of my fumbling. The dress was too tight I could not pull it down to feed her and the buttons were only sewn on for design! Sooo in order to feed my baby I would need to pull the dress up over my shoulders! 🙈To the bathroom I went to breastfeed my baby! For my second appearance in a dress I was determined to get it right! @latchedmama hooked me up with their drawstring t-shirt dress. It is SO soft and easy to breastfeed with, I LOVE it! Thank you for keeping me out of the bathrooms for breastfeeding! 😊🤟🏻
Because a good hearty laugh relieves some tension and stress 😂
My life now revolves around this small human being; when I take a shower, how I grocery shop (Walmart pickup is the greatest), what clothes I wear, when I sleep... so much has changed! Yet, I am more “me” then I have ever been before.❤️ What things have changed in your life since your little one arrived? Thank you @ivyknots.co for this adorable, soft as butter head wrap!
After delivery, we encourage you to do skin to skin with your baby if the circumstances allow. Uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact helps your body release hormones to stimulate milk production. Skin-to-skin will also help your baby see and smell your breasts and be encouraged to feed. The first hour after delivery, termed “the golden hour,” is when your baby is most alert. This is the best time to begin breastfeeding. You can find out if your hospital supports this “golden hour” if they are termed, “baby friendly” or are working towards this initiative. Group B. Streptoccus, also referred to as Group B. Strep or Baby Strep is a bacteria that may come and go in people’s bodies without symptoms. About 25% of all healthy pregnant women are tested positive for GBS in their vagina and rectum. Testing positive does not mean you have an infection or are unclean, it just means you carry the bacteria. It is not harmful to you, but it may be harmful to your newborn. You will be tested for GBS at 35-37 weeks and if positive, you will be treated with antibiotics during labor. To read more about GBS visit mommytobeprep.com, link in story and bio!
Thank you @tidy_snap for keeping my diaper bag organized! My husband is also a big fan as he can find things much easier when everything isn’t coming unfolded! And hey, they are pretty cute!

I can’t believe my baby is 2 weeks old today! 😭I have been going back and reading my own posts on mommytobeprep as some educational reminders! And you guys... I have some pretty fantastic information on there! My most recent and needed reading has been on sleep deprivation! 😳 (Link in bio) During this photoshoot my photographer and I tried everything to get Magnolia to sleep... she would not! Luckily my photographer @elisewelkerphoto was able to see the beauty in the moment and kept her camera pointed! When we were feeling somewhat frustrated, look what baby girl threw our direction! PURE MAGIC 💕I find that she gives me the most smiles during the middle of the night feeds when I am feeling utterly exhausted. The sly, milk dripping smiles are just what I need to refill my mamma tank... that with a few daytime naps! 😏These smiles and overwhelming emotions of gratitude and love are the moments I want to capture in my mind and heart forever. We love you so much Magnolia Brynn. #mommytobeprep #prenataleducation #sleepdeprivation #2weeks #somuchloveforsomethingsosmall
