Last night was @austin_humane ‘s iconic #RagstoWags gala, and my last night as official AHS staff. The last year+ has meant so much to me in terms of finding my identity and where I belong if I decide to continue a career in animal welfare. While I’m taking a break from animal shelter work, I’ll still be in an animal related field for the foreseeable future. Tomorrow I’m starting my newest adventure as a receptionist at a small vet clinic. I’ll definitely continue to volunteer and foster with AHS because I can’t imagine giving up that hands-on animal experience or the connections and friendships I’ve made in my time there. (Not to mention the two special needs kitties I’ve adopted!) Working at the shelter has become so much a part of my identity I’ve struggled with how to separate myself from directly rescuing animals and finding them homes to helping pets and owners in a different way. I’ve already felt some growing pains, but I’m hoping I’ll fall in love with my new clients just as I fell in love with the people and animals of @austin_humane.
