How unique the #Licuala fan palm forest near Mission Beach #fnq The rustling of the leaves rubbing against each other like paper... Such a strange sound for a forest... And just around the corner the amazing @coalescence_festival this weekend with tree planting, workshop and music! So looking forward to it! 😄
With my favourite person at my favourite place at the perfect time... and a bottle of wine... 😄
... just a rock right? I thought this place deserves a couple of posts... We spent all day walking around #Uluru and it drew us in... a journey into a past that's still present... The #Anangu #traditional owners have expressed that certain sides of Uluru cannot be photographed. The reason is, that these places must not be viewed in a different location. We made sure not to include any of those sites in our images to respect the local #aboriginal culture.
... and then there was The Rock... just woW! What a place... no words. We spent all day walking around it... and #Uluru took us on a journey, not only through space but through time... into the past... caves inhabited... ceremonies held... a culture emerging from the land, passed on by song... What energy comes from this special place still felt today... My respects to the #Anangu #Aboriginal people now recognised as the Traditional Owners of this place.
And here a sobering view on the reality of arid land grazing... The macabre aesthetics of #environmental #degradation ... The right side has #cattle , the left side doesn't... The grass tufts which are essential habitat for small marsupials have been completely removed and the bare earth is exposed to sun and erosion... I'm sure not all farmers overstock their paddocks but this one is also not the only example of mismanagement in the industry... 😔
