Scraped 49 years of crud off my gas tank and then shot it flat black to make it disappear under the car. The old tank has a few dents in it but it's still clean inside and still holds gas so I just freshened up it's appearance. 😎
Looks a bit better now. Finished cleaning the axle housing and hit it with some black paint. Thanks to my tagging skills I even managed to save the "B" on the housing. 😎
I was scraping the 50 years of dirt and grease off my axle housing and found a big, yellow "B" on it and uncovered a sideways "2" on the axle tube. I read the "B" signifies the housing is for a b-body in '69 cars . That makes sense since mine is a '69 b-body. Not sure what the 2 on the axle tube means.
Parts have been acquired. New 3.91s from Richmond will be going together soon. Thanks to @gswestrux for hooking me up.
Taking a break from cleaning parts to post a video from the last race as inspiration for me to get back out there and clean more parts. Racing @sloan_bryan in his badass Scat Pack Challenger. Got the win, 7.23 @ 94.8 to a 7.54 @ 92.5. Good race. Bryan' s car is damn fast for a naturally aspirated Challenger.
Still cleaning parts. Got the pinion snubber, u-joint straps and all of the nuts for the axles and the differential nice and clean so it will all go back together smoothly once the differential is ready to install.
Pulled about a 1/2 pound of ring and pinion teeth out of my axle housing. Then I cleaned my drum brake hardware. Probably the first time it's been this clean since 1969. The view through the axle tubes looks like something from the movie "the Ring".
Finished cleaning the parts that are going into the new differential. Going to take a look at the rear end housing and clean out all the shrapnel tomorrow.
Cleaning my new to me 742 housing that @gswestrux had laying around and cleaning the ancillary parts that go with it. This Oil Eater is the shiznit for degreasing parts.
The carnage was in full effect. Broke a bunch of teeth off the ring gear and knocked a bunch off the pinion gear too. Upside is the axles look great and the sure grip unit is a clutch type that looks really good too.
