You believe that all people matter, right? So do we. That’s why we, as proud members of @ftfederation, follow the nine principles of fair trade all of the time. Every. Single. Day. Whatever you purchase each day, no matter how big or how small, you should always feel confident knowing that the farmer, the artisan, the weaver, the maker, the seamstress was paid promptly and fairly while working in safe and empowering working conditions. October is Fair Trade Month, a great time to take a moment to find fair trade in every purchase you make. Visit fairtradefederation.org to find local fair trade shops as well as online fair trade businesses. Together we can make a difference using the power of each purchase.

While Labor Day in the USA was born from the need to reduce work hours (it was common for factory workers to work 80 hours a week when the movement began!) and improve working conditions, it is important to remember that we still have to work on that in America as well as around the world. Everyone in every industry should be entitled to fair wages and safe working conditions. One way you can ensure change is by knowing who made what you buy to wear, buy for your home or buy as gifts. Are they being paid a living wage? Etelvina is a backstrap weaver and a member of our cooperative.
