This approach to scoliosis treatment was developed by Katharina Schroth and further popularized by her daughter Christa. Born in Germany in late 1800s, Katharina Schroth had scoliosis that was unsuccessfully treated with bracing. She developed her own breathing technique and exercises to manage her scoliosis. She and her daughter opened a clinic, where they treated more than 150 patients at a time.
Deep tissue massage is used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.
Pain in the quadratus lumborum can be due to overuse, stress, and strain. Sometimes muscles cause pain and stiffness when they’re weak or too tight. Activities such as sitting for long periods of time can reduce blood flow to an area, especially in the QL and surrounding areas. Pain can also result from repetitive motions and weak back muscles, which lead to poor posture.

Most cars these days are fitted with a lumbar support in the seat which can be adjusted accordingly to the shape of your back. The main aim with the lumbar support is to preserve the neutral arch of your lower back. (most of us tend to round our back whilst driving) If your car does not have in-built lumbar support into the seat, consider using a rolled up towel or a small pillow instead. Just make sure that you are not over pronouncing the curve of your lumbar arch. If it feels like something is jabbing into your lower back, then it is likely the towel/pillow is too thick.
