Today I was able to attend the memorial for my coworker, adopted family, fellow crazy cat lady and collector! It was sad...even when funny things were said and we’d laugh but, it was still sad. Cuz she’s officially gone now. I went back to work and stood in her old booth....all her little things and trinkets left behind....imagining her finding them and seeing some worth of value to add to her “stuff”. I will miss her energy and intelligence. Her sassy comments and potty mouth when she spoke politics! A feisty, brilliant and giving woman who was ahead of her time as an independent woman that carried her own in a “mans world”. And don’t think for one second she wouldn’t remind you of such a fact! That’s what I truly admired in her for the few brief years I got to call her “friend” was her ability to do things on her own, on HER terms and if she felt wronged, by golly she’d say so! Not some helpless, withering “old lady” but a strong and wise person. She passed just two days before her birthday but peacefully asleep and not in anymore pain. For that I am grateful. And for the simple reason that she taught me things about antiques I never knew and treated me with love and respect. Now a part of my heart and memory has her name on it until it’s my turn to say goodbye.
