Remembering a great friend to all this 9/11. A moment to remember a great friend to all. 9/11 I remember Pat Brown's service at St. Patrick's Cathedral. It was a chilly, no, a cold day. The church was packed Not a seat to be had. The Cardinal of New York and Jimmy Breslin spoke about Pat in glowing and humorous terms. We all knew him that way. After the service, we went outside and as far as your eyes could see north and south on fifth avenue were firefighters, in their dress uniforms, in rows of six or seven deep, standing at attention on a windy cold afternoon, starched and pressed in absolute silence. In fact, there wasn't a sound to be heard on fifth avenue and 50th street They placed Pat's helmet on top of a Hearst; that's all that they found. The bagpipes began to play then i go numb. I come to in a coffeeshop downtown with a few friends wrapped in silence, sobbing, shaking, drinking cold coffee. #9 /11 #worldtradecenter #firefighter
