💗 engagement photo season (edit: I just realized this is almost the same snuggly pose as the previous photo I posted! How funny. I must be in a hug kind of mood! I didn’t set either couple up for this shot, just had them cuddle, and zoomed in on their hands. Love, love, love)
This tiny baby of mine turns 8 years old today. Happy birthday, sweet Symphony 💙
Napa Valley summer sunset engagements - I’m ready for you! 🌞
These two were all beautiful smiles throughout their wedding day, but this quiet, cozy moment is one of my favorites. 🖤
Hello, sunshine; you are loved! 💙💛
Today’s shoot had to be rescheduled due to rain (oh, April, you are tricky!)... so we’re having a lazy Sunday instead (as well as editing, cleaning, gardening...) 💙
Oh, baby boy! 😍💜 @tolutti your kids are the cutest.
Today’s the 6 month anniversary of these adorable goofballs’ wedding - and I don’t know whether they checked their star charts or something, but both the wedding, and today, were Friday the 13ths! What are the odds?! I love LOVE the giddy silly beautiful hilarious expressions @tenayasaurusrex makes in every photo, and how much she makes her man @maxwellmallen laugh constantly. This is just a peek, I can’t wait to share the whole thing! 💙
Friday 💙 / brothers ✌🏻
I’ve been taking a few days to process the announcement that @stylemepretty will be closing down/ disappearing at the end of the month. They’ve been an industry leader, a beautiful resource for wedding style, and a HUGE part of my career for the past decade. I don’t totally know what to say; they’d grown so enormous in recent years that I’d already sort of said good-bye and made my peace with it... but this announcement burrowed in and made my heart ache anyway. As I looked through the many, many of my weddings & shoots they’ve featured on SMP over the years (you can see in my stories!), that ache grew. Not just at the despair of all of that hard work, love and beauty, but for the way things were ten years ago. Before there were hundreds of wedding style blogs awash with “perfect / romantic / pastel / styled / magazine-worthy” weddings. In 2008, SMP was still new, and was just starting the journey from being a sweet little stationary blog, to being the amazing, style-making wedding powerhouse it became. I was thrilled to be one of the first photographers in the Napa/ Sonoma listings, and for many years, was just one of three. @abbydlarson gave her personal touch to everything, and I was overjoyed that she loved my work, and featured it many, many times over the years. Abby’s eye, and spirit, was the absolute heart and soul of SMP. But when SMP grew so big, when it became the wedding industry standard, I felt the loss of Abby’s unique p.o.v. I also started feeling that I didn’t want to create “perfect” wedding shoots - I wanted to capture beautiful moments from real weddings bursting with personality. As the wedding world started feeling more posed and styled, and less natural and unique, I felt a little disillusioned, with the pressures for everything to be Pinterest-perfect and Instagram-worthy. Not just from SMP, from the whole world, especially the wedding world. In recent years I’ve reconnected to what I love about shooting weddings - and it’s love and spirit, not just perfection. I really hope we don’t lose @stylemepretty forever -(continues in comments)
✨missing the big @ilea_napasonoma gala that I’m sure is amazing!! And reflecting back to this ILEA event at @triplesranch some more, because I cannot get enough (truly: my “favorites” included well over 300 shots!). Thank you again @lallyevents @meredithlawdesign @amieedmaris @brighteventrentals @lovenotespaper and everyone who helped make this party one of my favorites ever!
When I started doing my #jessamynmamamondays series, I told myself I’d do it for a year. And after about 40 mamas, I still have nearly infinite moms I love and admire and am inspired by left that I could share. But. Last week I skipped it in order to post a bunch of personal work from a spring-celebrating shoot I did, and it felt so good to have that extra time and space. I assumed I’d get back to it this week, but instead, I think I’m going to let it go. Maybe I’ll feature some beloved moms occasionally, but for now, I’m going to use that extra hour or so a week to focus on all of the client work flowing in now that spring is here and the light is perfect 😍✨ as well as some new personal projects/ work. I love looking back at the #mamaoftheweek posts I’ve shared, and I feel proud of each one, as well as grateful to each mom. It has meant so much to me when I get feedback on this series. I am all about honoring motherhood and caregivers and women’s work and women in general. And I’ll keep thinking of ways I can use that in my creative work... I’ve got lots of ideas (but rarely enough time!) But for now I’m more excited to focus on new work, so - thanks for watching, and stay tuned! 💗 . #jessamynhasapersonallife #40selfiesin2018
