At one of my talks this summer, an audience member asked me a question that all too many of us deal with when starting a new venture "What if they won't support me?" She asked, talking about her family. My immediate response was simple "Why do you need their support?" After a moment of thinking she realized that there was nothing physical she needed, but rather had made the act of getting started tied to getting permission. Having support is nice. But support is always extra. At the core, the only person whose permission you need, and whom you need to be able to count on day and night, is you. If you don't trust yourself, no one else will. Once you do, others will see it and be pulled in by your passion, drive and enthusiasm. It all starts with you.
