Last weekend the Encore team had an awesome and educational experience with our friends at @territorysportsmedicine where incredible Sport's Therapist, Nicky Gould showed us proper Transverse Abdominal engagement via ultrasound. It gave us insight as to what it feels to engage these very important muscles properly - which is a lot more complex than simply saying 'engage your core'. Tactile cues and verbal expressions proved helpful in activating these muscles and there was a collective sense of subtlety among our staff, meaning it was easier to use our larger external abdominals which unfortunately enable our transverse abdominals to do their job. Many back and hip related pain are due to lack of activation in these muscles.
Pilates aims to take the pain from your body and allow space to form proper strength and conditioning. If you are experiencing pain in your body - we recommend trying out our studio Pilates for a personalized conditioning and rehabilitation programme that will help to strengthen the muscles that need to be strengthened and release the muscles that do not serve.
