👀 DIPS on the Matador 🐂💃🏼 ⠀ ⁉️ Question: should you think about shoulder position or how much you prefer dips into queso? ⠀ 🧀 For the longest time I’d hover over the bar/rings when performing dips instead of letting my shoulders move back into extension. ⠀ 🧬 It still takes a lot of concentration to keep the shoulders down and back throughout the dip portion, but time under tension works.
🍁 More #SerratusStuff ⬆️⠀[Click the # for more posts] ⬆️ ⠀ 👁🗨 You usually only see Wall Slides on the Internet done with both arms and a band around the wrists. ⠀ 🔗 This might be the missing link between progressing to a landmine press. ⠀ 🍱 Press with more variety!
😰 “My shoulder hurts every time I put my arm overhead.” -Every shoulder patient I’ve ever seen. ⠀ 🦡 There are rarely instances in the world of a shoulder where it’s all or nothing, especially outside of a surgery. ⠀ 🦚 Spread your plumage, encourage some scapular movement, and scale it back a bit to give you some room to succeed. ⠀ 🥳 TOO EASY. ⠀ #SerratusStuff
#MondayMusings 95: ⠀ 🥪 The Cuban Press ⠀ 🇨🇺 A great tool for improving the internal rotation in your shoulder necessary for keeping a bar or loved one close. ⠀ 🦴 This might not be the best option for someone who has an aggravated shoulder impingement, unless you live your life dangerously. ⠀ 🍝 Throw these into your warmups before pressing/snatching/or going overhead.
💂🏼♂️ Pain Free Pullover ⠀ 🐎 I’ve always had a problem with pain on the inside of my elbows with high volume and heavy pullovers. ⠀ 😭 My wrist mobility in pronation or supination has always sucked. Barbell pullovers always hurt, and dumbbells are awk. ⠀ 🦄 But this neutral grip kettlebell feels magical, like Goldie Locks meets iron type stuff.
The bottom photo was taken as @gabbetttim said: “You sure you want to take a picture with me in those shorts, I might make ya legs looks small.” ⠀ 😂 Pictured: no proof. ⠀ Back in The Boot after a much needed adventure with all of the best evidence surrounding load management sprinkled on top. Thanks for being a great hosts @phlexnyc & @thehpm!
🛫 This is my absolute fave PRE-FLIGHT Mobility routine inspired by @thehumanmovementrehab and all of his saltiness. ⠀ Notice how I sit there, turn my head, switch legs, wiggle my foot a bit, stand up and walk around. ⠀ 🧘🏻♂️ Internet Movement Guru Explanation: ⠀ Really hit the right sided scalene stretch while performing a seated pigeon external rotation and abduction stretch. ⠀ Switch legs, perform toe wiggles to avoid a deep vein thrombosis immediately into an unweighted forward leaning box squat seamlessly into ambulation. ⠀ 🙋🏻♂️ But in all seriousness, your body isn’t going to “tighten up” mid three-hour flight like a dried out sponge and ruin your day. Walk around before the flight, and get up and go to the bathroom if you get uncomfortable in the middle of the flight. ⠀ 🖖🏼 See ya soon Manhattan @thehpm @embrklifestyle
#MondayMusings 93, Movement SZN: ⠀ 🙇🏻♂️ Not to get overly meta but this year was centered around movement for me both physically and life-circumstantially. ⠀ 📑 Moves List: • #Kneebola solved squats courtesy of silkies from @landon__dean • Cross country moves • Road trips to Yankee country • Business moves (@thealineacollective) • Contenting moves • Career moves (I will be getting mentored on becoming a Male Pelvic Health Therapist) • Emotional moves - Dealing with death, life, decision making, personal development, adulting ⠀ 🔄 Looking forward to more life movement, and helping people move more this next year. ⠀ 🖖🏼 S/o to @hannahmoves for the move making inspiration, and @chrissypotpie for the self evaluation prompt.
The One Year Take Away: ⠀ “The more you know, the more you realize how much you don’t know.”
🙀 A “diagnosis” of “upper cross” or “lower cross syndrome” is dated and usually inaccurate. ⠀ 🐎 It’s an assumption, and frequently leads to over stretching and over treating of the hip flexors (and for the upper body, the traps). ⠀ 🍖 A muscle can only be as strong as the range it can move through, so if a muscle FEELS tight, but you can’t control its full muscle action — it probably needs to be stronger. ⠀ 🧐 If you can squat or deadlift your body weight how are your glutes weak? ⠀ Don’t @ me Janda.
Just doing neck-xactly what the rest of the Internet is doing and meme’ing this exceptionally strong looking neck. ⠀ More meme variants in story 😅
#MondayMusings 91: ⠀ This past weekend @thehpm came down to the bayou to teach a #BloodFlowRestriction course for @smarttoolsusa. ⠀ #BFR might be the only modality I’m in support of at this point in my career. Why? CAUSE IT’S ACTIVE. And there’s evidence that supports it! ⠀ More things coming about how I’ll be implementing this in practice ✌🏼 ⠀ Non-evidence-based-disclaimer: Boudin and beignets make BFR gainz increase by +%3.
