I heard about @quintinhaynes long before I ever met him. I had friends who went to school with him or worked with him and they would talk about how impressive this guy’s career moves were. He was somewhere around my age and had already accomplished the following: - Director of Finance for the Obama White House ✅ - Advisor to two U.S. Secretaries of Commerce under the Obama Administration✅ - Graduation speaker at NYU ✅ - Director of Human Resources and Diversity at the NYC Mayor’s Office ✅ Today, Quintin is the Chief of Staff at the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services and an Adjunct Associate Professor NYU. Listen in as we chat about: * How he thinks about career success * How he manages his daily routine * What traits have set him apart as a leader
Pro tip: be as happy for other people as you are for yourself ✨✨
My current job of branded content manager did not exist when I was 12. Even though I didn’t go to college for this kind of work, I landed in this role because I was lucky enough to have parents who encouraged me to be curious and who gushed at the slightest hint of an entrepreneurial and creative spirit (I used to gather up our family’s belongings and try to sell them on our porch 😂 #hustler ). That spirit eventually led to me starting my podcasting side hustle, which allowed me to pitch myself as someone who understands content creation and management. Today is the International Day of the Girl, and this year’s theme is ‘A Skilled GirlForce’. If we can equip young girls all over the world to pursue their wildest dreams, they will someday hold titles we don’t have the words for in 2018. A gentle reminder ✨
@ainafadina and I met through a mutual friend on a gorgeous summer day in Harlem. We hit it off talking about entrepreneurship, grad school, and insecure. I remember thinking, this girl must be a model, but we didn’t explicitly talk about either of our careers. I later found out that not only was she a model, she had a successful career as an in-house muse at high-end brands like Oscar De La Renta, Fendi, and Alexander McQueen 💅🏾. As it turns out, this experience is what gave her insight on how to marry business & art. She later went on to launch her own multi media series (#IofAfrica ) featuring Africans who were contributing to art, business, and innovation on the continent and in the diaspora. If you've been listening to Depth & Candor for a while, you know I'm a huge advocate of therapy. I wasn't always open about that because I felt embarrassed that I didn't know how to thrive on my own. The reality however, is that all of us have blind spots and we need people in our lives who can objectively help us see what is going on beneath the surface. That's why I wanted to interview a therapist about how to live your best life! Today's guest is therapist, Farah Harris, and her vibe is EVERYTHING. She believes that each one of us can influence and change our world on a micro-level (i.e. family, friends, place of work) and eventually, on a global level. She is on a mission to help individuals find and own their voice.
Deciding to hire a financial planner was a really scary decision for me. I was afraid it would cost too much, of being judged for not making smart money decisions, and terrified to openly talk about my money🙈. But hiring a financial planner was also THE smartest financial decision I’ve made as an adult. Rianka is a certified financial planner, the founder of Your Greatest Contribution (a virtual comprehensive financial planning firm), and the Creator and Host of the 2050 TrailBlazers podcast. She is also the very first guest on Season 5! In our convo, she shares her tips to pursuing financial freedom, how she achieved success at such a young age, and her mindset around doing incredible work! 🎧 to the episode by clicking the link in my bio 😘
If you watch my stories, you know how HILARIOUS my mom is. She literally laid down on the ground to take pics of me when I asked her to get my angles right😂😂😂😂 NEVER a dull moment.
After 3 hours of learning how to make macarons from a really nice French baker, my mom very nonchalantly says, ‘Ye Talian cookies yeshalal’ (translation: Italian cookies are better) 😂SIS, U 👏🏾BETTA 👏🏾EAT👏🏾THE👏🏾DAMN 👏🏾MACARONS
Me giddily editing episode 1 of the new Depth & Candor season, totally oblivious to the fact that someone had stolen my bag (which had my charger in it) from right next to me 😳 New season was supposed to air tomorrow, but now it’s going to air next Tuesday so I can vacation in peace. If you wanna listen, subscribe to ‘Depth and Candor’ on iTunes or Stitcher 😘😘 #depthandcandorpodcast
I called my mom last week and asked her what her Labor Day plans were. She said she didn’t have any, so I quickly booked our tickets to Paris and told her to start packing. Here is a pic of us when we got to our hotel earlier... happy AF 😍 Joy is our only priority for the next few days #TheTwinsTakeParis
Last week I quit my job as a data analyst to start my career at a digital media company. Although I didn’t know it, this career technically started almost two years ago when I started hosting and producing my own podcast for fun. It’s amazing to watch a little creative pursuit grow into a big dream and then actually begin to manifest. If you wanna know more, join the #DepthandCandor email list - I’ve recorded a special episode for my email subscribers detailing how I made the transition and the highs and lows that came with it.
