“Seeds are held close to the heart in many of the cultures Indigenous to Turtle Island. This is certainly true for the Iroquoian societies of the Lower Great Lakes region, including the Wyandot who lived in the village at Crawford Lake”. In Crawford Lake conservation area, there is a Three Sisters garden planted in partnership with Ojiibiikaan Indigenous Cultural Network, & NishDish Marketeria @nishdishmarketeria in Toronto. Click the link in the bio to learn more about the garden, traditional staple foods, the role of seed keepers, and what this means for Indigenous food sovereignty. As you swipe right to see the delicious harvest from this year, the last photo of the Hopi Orange Winter Squash was taken by NishDish, which they used for fantastic native cuisine! The rest of the photos were taken by the team at Ojibiikaan.
