For me, the most challenging aspect of woodworking is coming up with an efficient "flow" to go from a bunch of boards to a finished product, be it furniture, a picture frame or even just a box. It sounds easy, make a few cuts, assemble, finish. The problem comes when your cuts turn out to be 1/16" off or 89 degree angles instead of 90. It might not sound like much but these errors get magnified as the build progresses producing rhomboids instead of rectangles and drawers that catch when opened or closed. The perfectionist in me toils over these interruptions in efficiency. Once one cut is off you have to go back and recut often times costing valuable finite resources (not just money for more wood but your time as well). These errors can be caused by inexperience, cheap tools or an uncomfortable or poorly set up workspace. The latter will soon be solved for me. I've been working on a massive work bench for the past month or so. It's modeled after the Festool MFT but much larger and more stable as I won't need to move it anywhere. I could have bought it outright and had an instant work station but the experience building one is invaluable. I also get to customize it how I see fit. The bench dog holes on the top are a precise 4" apart in all directions and exactly perpendicular and parallel to each other. This allows wood to be placed against the bench dogs and cut at perfect right angles. The above picture is round 2 with the holes drilled in the top. The first time some holes were between 1/16 and 1/32 off. It took a lot of time to redo it but now it's nearly perfect (i.e. I cannot perceive any imprecision). Very pleased with how it turned out and I'll be sharing more pictures in the coming weeks as I add to it and complete it. #woodworking #woodcraft #workbench #precision #festool @festool_usa
Back in VA but dreaming of the mountains. Around every corner there was a new site to behold or a new fresh scent to take in. We would often ask ourselves could it get any prettier then would be in awe of the next unfolding landscape as we rounded the bend. #colorado #jeep #adventure
Last day, last video from vacation before we board our flight in Denver back to Virginia. We drove up Tomboy Road in Telluride a few days ago. Almost made it to Imogine Pass which is the second highest drivable pass in Co but had to turn around because it was getting late. Jeep did great on this trail despite being stock. #unleashedco2017 #telluride #imoginepass #gopro #jeep
Day...lost count what day we're on. Drove from Gateway, CO to Telluride. The drive was beautiful but what's even more beautiful is the scenery in Telluride. Never have I seen more mountainous mountains for lack of better description. #unleashedco2017 #telluride #colorado
Day 4. This morning we woke up early and ate a hearty breakfast then headed out for a hike in the desert trying to beat the heat. This is a totally different environment to hike in than the alpine trails we did the last few days. We were attentive to watch it for rattle snakes (which thankfully we didn't see!). Less elevation = feels easier to hike but so much hotter with the sun beating down on you without shade but still just as beautiful. Planning to take the Jeep off-road this afternoon. #colorado #exploring #desert #jeep #gopro #unleashedco2017
Day 3. Today was pretty relaxing. We drove from Grand Junction to Gateway Colorado and checked into our hotel and laid by the pool 🏊. Amazing views here. First is out the bedroom window. Second is the view from the OUTDOOR shower 😱😱!!! and the third is a pic of our travel companion the Jeep Wrangler in the canyon on the way. #colorado #unleashedco2017 #jeep #desert
Day 2. Hiked the Crag Crest Trail in Grand Mesa today. The loop was 9.6 miles but we ended up turning around short and hiking back for a total of around 6 miles because we had to get to the #Skillet concert in Grand junction tonight which is where we're headed now. #colorado #cragscrest #skillet #unleashedco2017 @katiegarrison11
Day 2. After the hike we took the Jeep up to transfer trail. Saw this truck that had rolled off the trail. Needless to say Katie got real nervous at the sight and it wasn't much after that we turned around and headed back 😛 #colorado #transfertrail #jeep #unleashedco2017 @katiegarrison11
