Dr. Judy Chang will be joining us to lead the discussion. . Dr. Chang is an obstetrician-gynecologist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC and UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside. She received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr. Chang has an array of different research projects that she is working on, but one topic that is particularly passionate about is intimate partner violence. As such, she will be giving a lecture on detecting the signs of IPV and how to navigate various scenarios. . We hope to see you all there to discuss this very important topic! But I like to tell my patients who have tried programs that only focus on the pelvic floor….what’s going on with floor of the house won’t matter if the roof is falling in. Their “roof” is a high pressure or high muscular force strategy such as breath holding or abdominal gripping used regularly for functional and fitness tasks. If this is not addressed then prolapse symptom resolution will be a challenge. I would venture an educated guess that a lack of attention to this component of the system that supports our centers (pelvic organs and all) is part of why prolapse surgeries have a very high failure rate. Because those pressures and forces from above which contributed to perpetuating the issue in the first place have never been addressed, chances are they will continue post-op. The surgical “fix” will wear down over time. Please consider new messages and strategies to build a more balanced approach to address prolapse. Simple first step: stop holding your breath for movements, function and fitness. Second step: try blow before you go instead! Start your exhale before you move to both blow off pressure, and to trigger pelvic floor support from below, continue that exhale through the rest of the movement. This integrates the whole system into movements patterns. You may need added “umph” from below to match the level of demand or as you learn to reconnect. Third step: Pay attention to how you are participating in an activity, which trigger symptoms and explore modifications (both in strategy-like steps one or two above and in demand-shorten the range, reduce speed, lighten the load) to see if you can find a way to continue positive movement participation! So last Monday I pledged to eat well, drink >3 litres of water, utilise @headspace for meditation and get my sweat on @f45training_subiaco in order to keep working on the best version of me for #womenshealthweek I ate well about 80% of the time, drank well over 3 litres of water every day, meditated a total of 34 minutes over 7 days and went to 7 F45 sessions. I have an ongoing dietary plan in place to shed some of that holiday mode fluff and I'm loving training with the #f45subicrew . I have historically been poor at drinking water and certainly enjoy an alcoholic beverage! This week I've been right on it with hydration and had no alcohol. Monday morning a bit slow? Tapping is a great tool for a quick energy boost. KID 27 is a perfect point to tap, the Kidneys contain the source of all the energy in our bodies and this point is where it emanates from the body. ➕ First locate your collar bones ➕ Place a finger on your collar bone approx 2 fingers from your sternum/breast bone ➕ Roll your finger down into the depression below the collar bone ➕ Start tapping firmly with one or two fingers while taking deep inhalations into your abdomen. ➕ Continue for 30secs - 1 min and feel the lightness and energy it brings! 💕 Also good if you're feeling anxious or stressed - this point is a go to! 💜💜

The Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week is a week dedicated to all women across Australia to make good health a priority. This is their 5th year running. Ladies it is so important to look after yourselves from our mental health to our physical health. We put ourselves last too much. When it comes to our health this is something that needs to come first. Go have a pap smear, get your skin checked, see the doctor about that lump or mark, start that exercise routine and the list goes on. All of these things take 15-30mins.
