For those that don’t know I’m a teacher gone rogue. I spent 16 years in the public school classroom before flying the coop in 2016 to follow my dreams. Throughout that time I cultivated quite the collection of tips and tricks for teaching Social Studies. I had an advantage though because I love it myself. One of my favorite blog posts on www.thesocialstudieswhisperer.com is my world famous (ok maybe that’s wishful thinking, it’s a lil Pinterest famous though) “Tips for Turning History Haters into Engaged Enthusiasts” blog post (link is in my profile). Let’s get real. YOU might be a history hater yourself. I decided that this would be a good week to break that post down into bite-size chunks of actionable steps. There’s a long stretch until Thanksgiving break teachers. Make the most of Social Studies until then!!! I had a purpose for my walk in the woods today. I only hit the trails if there is a historical something along it. ➡️My first tip is stop dreading teaching Social Studies. Find a way to connect it to your own life. Get out there in your local area and explore historical sites yourself! Start by searching your county’s parks and rec. site if you can’t find any! Do you know how powerful it is to tell kids about events in history that happened literally almost in their own backyard?!?! I remember the moment that it dawned on one of my 5th graders that there was slavery in our city. I had shown my class pictures I took of a restored slave cabin at another historical park. He had a whole new perspective and interest in SS the rest of the year. It starts with you!!!
ICYMI I was temporarily lost in the woods but good news. You can catch the *adventure* on my story. I found my way back to my car and logged some good exercise in the process. I don’t idle well. Most ADHD’ers don’t. Now off to pick my son up!
So I picked a different spot for a vision quest today....that moment when you being lost in the woods becomes a pretty accurate metaphor for your life. This would be an instance where I hope I’m picking the road MOST traveled😂😂😂😂😂. I guess I can always use Waze on foot. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Roughly balanced for today’s 3.25 mi🍊run #bibchat #bocogear #balance • • • • Howdy y’all! How are you? Hope you’re having a good week. Today was a tough run day. Fatigue and a high heart❤️rate for most of the run 🏃🏻(zone 4 for 75%). Lacking sleep 😴 last night was a factor. If we don’t get enough 💤 it’s tough to function at an energized normal level. And it’s a busy week so I have a lot in my mind, including travel later this week. We slowed down and ran steady splits: 12:15 pace with walk and dog 🐕 sniff breaks. 🍊🐕🏃🏻We tested our balance a little in a large rock that Misty wanted to stand upon: Yes ‘twas her idea💡I was a little unsteady in the rock at first, it was a grooved rock and uneven. But we eventually balanced there for a little while. 🍂🍁Good running weather today: sunny 😎 and mild. The @bocogear hat 🎩 was helpful and helped me focus on a rough run by keeping the sun ☀️ away. 🙏 Wishing you all a wonderful week. Remember some days are tougher than others, both in running and in life. Persevere and reach for the stars✨⭐️ We shall Overcome! 🙏💙✌🏼

Don't be like that
My first payout ever from #teacherspayteachers back when I was “Running Things with Runnels” and had no concept of branding. That was one clever play on words that didn’t quite make sense to everyone. I still get excited with every sale because that means I’m helping someone! I also still panic🙀 every time I get a notification someone left feedback on a product because I’m afraid of what they will say. Back then I had already had a store for like a year and a half with just a terrible freebie in it. I’d have to say I’ve come a long way with quality since then and I still strive to improve my digital products or some part of my store regularly. #theyrenevergoodenough #perfectionist

Cool misty 3.2 mi run🏃🏻warm🔥 hatted🎩 #bibchat #buffusa #runchat • • • • Howdy fitness friends! How are you? Hope you’re well. We slept in today (this never happens!😱) so we shortened our run 🏃🏻 slightly. Heart ❤️ rate was a little high early but it settled. Happy 😃 to have the warm versatile @buff_usa thermonet hat 🎩 to keep us dry despite the rainy mist and warm in the breezy cold air. Ran 11:55 pace. Warmed up a little with the sun ☀️ reappearing is I adjusted the hat. Will show you that later. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Remember to exercise, rest, eat healthy and hydrate! Be bold, strong, courageous and kick your challenges! 💥🙏🔥

Enjoyable conical 3.35 mi run with🍊visor fun on RSD 1425. Close encounter with a baby bird 🦅 on the trail was the most amazing moment. Relaxing😌 11:37 pace today, easy effort saving energy for mañana. #bibchat #bocogear #fridayfeeling • • • • 🍊Orange you glad you worked out 💪 today? Or did you rest? How are you friends! Hope you’re having a fun wonderful week. Temps are dipping here again. I almost thought it was too cool outside for the visor weather-wise but running always warms us up a bit. I will try at some point wearing the visor over my ears 👂🏼 to keep them warm, it won’t quite cover my entire ears (not wide enough) but maybe half. The visor is helpful in keeping the wind out of my face, especially my eyes 👀. Misty 🐕 was a little mad she couldn’t play with the orange 🍊 cone, I think she thought it was a toy. 🏃🏻We considered doing fartlek today but decided not to due to leg cramps I felt before running. We did add a tiny speed burst at the end to let Misty burn some extra energy. She naps better when we have a few speed bursts. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Remember to exercise, hydrate, eat healthy and rest. Catch you soon! Later friends! 🏃🏻🍁👋🦋💪Rock on!
Step by step 💪
Remember that forever 😉

Picket fence didn’t block the sun☀️on today’s 4.1 mi run🏃🏻#bibchat #bocogear #hat • • • • 😎Howdy y’all how are you? Warmer run today with bright sun ☀️ shining and reflecting brilliantly. I had to pull my @Bocogear hat 🎩 down a few times. See where the sun line is with my shades off? Southern breeze was a refreshing change from the cold northerly wind we’ve had the past few days. This hat has never flown off my head yet. We’ve run on some windy days with it. 🍊I think the BoCo in Bocogear stands for Boulder, Colorado (see hat 🎩 tag). 🎃 Ran 11:08 pace today. Misty had to run a little faster during one mile as the wind speed picked up. For some reason this cuss dogs 🐕 to accelerate 🤣maybe because they get cold? Or excited? So one mile was under 11:00 🕚 pace. And Misty sometimes needs a little pep talk to be encouraged when we run. So we had one today.😉 🤗 How is your week going? Remember to exercise and eat healthy. It helps us live longer, more energetic lives. Have a great 👍 rest of the week! Ciao friends! 🙏✌🏼👋💙
Stay away from THEM!
#tbt to an instance of when lack of attention to detail came back to bite me in the ass. The reason I couldn’t find www.thesocialstudieswhisperer.com was because I accidentally registered thesocialstudies.com instead. This time last year I was still on Blogger y’all. And I knew nothing about Wordpress. And now I can build and fix my own site and I’ve got 2 WP sites I designed myself. This was only the first obstacle in an epic website debacle and a very hard lesson learned about doing your research before you hire someone and being assertive in business. When you have a “save the world for free complex” and pride yourself on being a cheerleader for others conflict is something you avoid. I spent months being full of rage on the inside because I didn’t want to hurt someone else’s feelings. The lesson learned was that sometimes you have to be more of a shark when your livelihood is on the line. I’ve also learned that some people are wired as the opposite which I am always shocked by because I try to always see the good in people. True entrepreneurs put others first not their profit. Hmmmm I need to finish that blog post about my lessons learned the first year full time in business before it’s been two years...
Double tap if you agree 💯
So everyone says it’s lame to share product covers but #redhairdontcare because designing covers is my favorite part of creating digital products. Well that and brainstorming ideas for new ones💡🌟. You know what’s an odd coincidence? I uploaded this today and tonight I was talking with my new friends from my small group about new shows to watch on Netflix and someone mentioned the show Hell on Wheels. Since I finished Riverdale, I just decided to watch it and turns out it takes place in the time period my web quest is about. 🙀 Oh yeah if you’re interested in the web quest it’s at bit.ly/SSWTPT but it’s cool if you just scroll through and like my post, too. Or if you like any of my posts ever. I notice. It’s appreciated. #thispostisbroughttoyoubyadhd
🚂Light 5k training run today on RSD 1423. Headband💙needed for cool temps. #buffusa #bibchat #5k • • • • Hi friends! How are you? Twas a cool today in mid-40s when we ran so a little warmer than yesterday. Decided to wrap the @buff_usa headwear as a headband. It seemed to be ideal for this weather. It was perfect 👌🏼 And it was a close color match for my blue 💙shirt. Stayed warm for the entire run despite pausing in the prairie. Didn’t need to pull the headband over my ears👂🏼although it can do that if it’s colder. Was very relaxed 😌 while running today partly because I was remembering racing my first 50k race 3 years ago today. Very happy😃memories 💙❤️💜⭐️My run-panion🐾 was very pleased😀with the warmer weather and the ability to ZOOM outside a little more. We ran an 11:34 pace and kept it short. My heart ❤️ rate was back in the good zone today so that was pleasant, too. We did see a train 🚂 at 11:11 but it wasn’t loving so we snapped it as a reminder to all of us: Keep training!🚂 Have an excellent week!🙏💙✌🏼🍁

Buffer zone🎩helped on a chilly windy 3.16 mi run today. #buffusa #bibchat #buffheadwear • • • • Hey 👋 friends? How’s the weather where you are? Have you seen snow ❄️ yet? Much colder run today. Happy that my @buff_usa hat 🎩 kept me warm for the whole run. My hands (without gloves) froze. With a north wind💨, felt like 40s. Misty 🐕 reminded me how cold she was, as she kept pulling on the leash wanting to go home 🏡 We ran a slower recovery run 🏃🏻 today after yesterday’s race. Easy 12:37 pace, keeping it slow to keep the heart ❤️ rate down. 🎩 I wore the hat over my ears 👂🏼 for the entire run. I was able to keep the @xx2i sunglasses 🕶 in place under the hat. I tried to keep my hands warm with my @bibrave long sleeve shirt. After the run, I warmed my hands with the Buff hat. It did warm them up pretty quickly too. So they make Buff hats for dogs 🐕? Misty wonders... 🙏Have a great 👍 week y’all! ✌🏼
IGNORE ALL THIS NOISE ‼️ It will never stop. Thank you for this message @patrickbetdavid
So I’m pulling the “I’m a poor single mom chasing her dreams” card. I got an email this morning that I’m exempt from sitting through substitute teacher training on Wednesday but since when are fingerprints $50?!?!? All I have to do to sub is fill out the 16 pieces of new hire paperwork, pay the $50, and then make an appointment with HR at Forsyth County. So who needs some graphic design work (pretty printables, pizzazzy powerpoints, product cover makeovers, social media images), copywriting (as in revising and editing sales pages, about me pages, product descriptions, social media captions, etc.) or social media scheduling work done so I can pay for the fingerprints and groceries (Have you ever fed a teenage boy?) until I actually get to sub? 🌟🌟🌟Let’s make a deal! You can see my portfolio on www.diaryofagingerpreneur.com! Pricing packages are negotiable! I’m thinking NIFTY FIFTY deals. Can’t tutor or get a retail job because my schedule is insane right now with being the basketball player taxi and I’d like to not have to sell any organs.
