Inktober Day 11 - Cruel Volumnia and Martius from Shakespeare's "Coriolanus". Volumnia has to be one of the most awful mothers in theater history. She created this lonely dragon, who has been taught nothing but repression, obedience, and cruelty. He's been hollowed out until nothing remains but the "perfect" soldier. And yet what makes this play so poignant for me is that you catch tiny glimpses of what Martius could have been, in the way that he interacts with his wife and child. Anyways, I'd better stop before I sob buckets and write out the entire plot.
