It’s World Humanitarian Day. Let’s talk about what’s on my mind. 🌎 . In an interview I did with the United Nations in 2014, I learned that women are dying while giving birth at an alarming rate. Accordingly to WHO, 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. 99% of all maternal deaths occur in developing countries. Maternal mortality is higher in women living in rural areas and among poorer communities. 🍃 . . We don’t talk enough about this. 👄 . Africa has lost a great hero. Kofi Annan will be remembered as a peace maker and the man who saved Kenya from Plunging into civil war. May his soul rest in eternal peace. As Global Pan Africanism Network (GPAN) we would like to send our condolences and stand with the nation of Ghana during this difficult time. GPAN will come up with a project to recognize all past heroes of black descent and document their history. Our role in Africa is to restore forgotten glorious African history that is now no longer taught in schools. We as an organization are determined to document and collect African history so that we tell our story from Afrocentric view point. Let us stand together as a people and one nation. Kofi Annan, Former United Nations Secretary-General, who died on the 18th of August, 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland, will be remembered for a lot of great things. Above all, he will be remembered for dedicating his life to democracy, peace, stability, security, equity, justice, human rights; a quality which earned him re-appointment for a second term. Kofi Atta Annan was born in Kumasi on April 8, 1938, to the family of former provincial governor in Ghana, Mr. Henry Reginald and Mrs. Victoria Annan. Kofi Annan had his formal education at College of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. After this, he proceeded to get his Bachelors in Economics in 1961 on Ford Foundation’s scholarship from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota. While he showed the traits of someone who had an affinity for international relations, he also attended the Institut Universitaire des Hautes Etudes Internationales, Geneva, Switzerland between 1961 and 1962, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan Fellow for Master’s in Management between 1971 and 1972.
