October, for the past 21 years have been celebrated as Filipino American History Month. “The month was established to commemorate the first documented landing of Filipinos in what is now known as the continental United States over 425 years ago” (FANHS). To Celebrate Fil-Am History Month, LeelinBakeryandCafe will spotlight the staples of Filipino cuisine, and discuss how the food impacted the culture and lifestyle of the Filipinos. Toasted #Ensaymada filled with #ube #icecream Ube (Purple Yam) is the Filipino word for a kind of lavender colored yam found in the tropics. It should not be confused with taro or purple sweet potatoes, for both are completely different types of food. Making ube ice cream is tedious process, but the result is all worth it in the end. Especially when you put it in between a freshly baked ensaymada and toasting it to perfection.
