A really great week of wine, friends and dinners at home before heading to Bordeaux. . I love traveling but there really is no place like home, especially with a table filled with wine and friends. . It was a good mix of Cote Rotie, Chateauneuf du Pape and Bordeaux. A nice range of ages as you can see too, from 1952 to 2015. . From old to young... . 1952 #chateaucanonlagaffeliere is faded, but still quite charming in a rustic kind of way. Earth and truffles with tobacco and hints of bright red fruits are found on the nose and palate. . 1964 #chateaulaconseillante is a stunner, combining the patina of age with sexy, sensuous textures and an elegant finish. . 1982 #chateaulatourpomerol is much better than the previous bottle, which is often the case. Soft, lush and polished with layers of silky plums, this is fully mature. . 1994 #guigallamouline is on the strict side, but there is still plenty of fresh, stony, red fruits, flowers, pepper and licorice to keep you busy. . 1998 #marcoux is an odd duck. There is a lot of volatile acidity that is more noticeable than the fruit. I need to pop another bottle to see what’s going on here. . 2009 #henribonneau is incredibly ripe, supple and polished. I like the wine but it’s not what I want to find in Celestins. . 2010 #Guigallandonne is off the charts! One of the best young wines I’ve tasted in years, the wine is mouth filling, palate coating and complex. The finish hangs in there for at least 60 seconds. . 2010 #gerin Les Grandes Places is a beauty. Concentrated, long and lush, with a wealth of fruit that doesn’t quit. . 2015 #renerostaing Côte Blonde has it all, freshness, vibrancy, polish, exotic textures and and ethereal blend of flower, stones and kirsch. .
