DEMONIOS O YOKAI TENGU Tengu es un demonio del folclore y mitología japonesa. Algunas fuentes opinan que son descendientes de Susanowo-no-mikoto, el dios de la tormenta hermano de Amaterasu, la diosa Sol. Sus características son su cara de color rojo y su prolongada nariz. En algunos rubros populares, se relaciona a esta entidad con el concepto de extranjeros en Japón. Se les considera fundadores de escuelas de esgrima y de Jujitsu y reivindican el origen divino de las artes marciales. Según la tradición, los tengu nacen de un enorme huevo y viven en los árboles de las zonas de montaña, sobre todo en los pinos y los cedros. De hecho, la principal localización que se atribuye a esta especie de demonios es Kurama, un pequeño pueblo al norte de Kioto. En concreto, a los “Kurama Tengu”, que es como se conoce a los que supuestamente viven en esta zona, se les conoce también como “tengu yamabushi”. Se dice que los tengu disfrutan de causar caos y confusión en el mundo de los humanos castigando al vanidoso, molestando al poderoso y recompensando a la persona humilde que no les teme. A veces secuestran a personas y los dejan perdidos en el bosque en un estado de demencia llamado tengu-kakushi, pero a veces también son invocados para que los niños perdidos encuentren su camino a casa.Los Konjaku Monogatari, una colección de historias publicadas a finales del periodo Heian, contenían algunas de las primeras historias relacionadas a los tengu. Eran grandes oponentes del budismo, ya que engañaban a la gente a creer en falsas representaciones de Buda, para después abandonar a monjes en lugares remotos, seducir a mujeres y hacerlas creer que eran hombres divinos, robar templos y promover la creencia de poderes malignos. Usualmente se disfrazaban como monjes, pero su verdadero propósito siempre fue el de engañar. En el Genpei Jōsuiki, escrito a finales del periodo Kamakura, un dios se aparece a Go-Shirakawa y le da información detallada de los espíritus tengu.

There are many legends of the guitar ninja's origins. Some say he is part tengu, part tiger, while some have declared him an alien... . Others think the guitar ninja came from a dragon. This magic empowered dragon, as old time itself, was known to have once befriended a demon. As one would expect, the dragon and demon clashed, then fought- as neither one is known for backing down. The demon proved eternal, and the dragon, no matter his great ancient power- could not destroy the demon. Agitated, the dragon found he could only defeat the demon by changing to a mortal form. Magic remained in the new being. The dragon's layered voice of all dialects speaking at once transformed into the twelve notes that comprise music. As a mortal with an axe to grind, and strong residual powers, the dragon then used music to drive the demon away. She still exists, but is forced out of the radius of his sound waves... .
