Here are the ways in which we can change how our bodies look. We can:

But what about getting toned, you ask?

Well, here's what tone is. It's building some degree of muscle (#1 on the list above) and losing enough fat (#4 on the list) so that the muscle you've built becomes more visible. This, in a nutshell, is all "tone" is. Muscle - fat = tone.

But what about getting too bulky, you ask?
-
Well, here's what bulkiness is. It's when you either A) unintentionally build more muscle (#1 ) than you'd prefer to have (something that is pretty rare considering the average intermediate man might gain 1lb of muscle *per month* under ideal circumstances, and the average intermediate woman might gain half that), B) gain more fat (#3 ) than you'd prefer to have thereby covering your muscles and preventing you from looking "toned" (this is, by far, the most common reason why someone thinks they look "bulky"), or C) some combination of both.

But then you may wonder... what about weight training itself?

Doesn't light weights, high reps, machines and isolation exercises make people toned, sculpted, defined, slim and feminine? No... they don't.

And doesn't heavy weights, lower reps, free weights and compound exercises make people bulky and manly looking (practically overnight)? No... they don't.

So, the next time you're thinking about lifting "light weights" in your quest to "get toned" while avoiding getting "too bulky," please realize that A) your logic is fundamentally flawed, and B) you're unlikely to be doing anything with those "light weights" that will result in building the muscle you need to build and/or losing the fat you need to lose in order to achieve the "toned" appearance you seek.

115kg Log Push Press PB This is a 10kg PB for my Push Press, I have been putting in some hard practice with a lot of volume to build more strength and fix up all my technical errors. It's paying off!
@fatgripz shoulder mobility warm up. This is a two part movement. The first is a light weight incline press. The next is an isolated shoulder raise on the incline bench. Sets and reps are : 5 presses 5 raises. 3-5 sets total. Start WIDE, NARROW AND CLOSE .I'd suggest using the bar to start. STOP BUTCHERING YOUR CHIN UPS ****** The biggest mistake I see with chin ups is trying to jump in at the deep end, go for a full chin up, flail around on the bar for a while then give up because it's too hard. Obviously it's too hard... you've jumped from 0-100% with no steps between. So here's how to progress your chin up properly. ****** By using the rack chin up you have a massive spectrum for how you can charge get the way you load your chin ups to take things one step at a time. This is an example here of how to start to load the Eccentric (way down) more once you can do a comfortable 10 reps using just one leg to assist you. Pull to the top using both legs to assist (use them as little as possible) then one at a time bring your legs off the ground. Do as many as you can out of a set of 10 until you can no longer fully control the Eccentric and bring the legs back in to round up for the set. ****** Once you can do a set of 10 taking your legs off on the way down for every rep you need to start adding in pauses. ****** Drop the ego, progress sensibly over time and I guarantee you'll nail better and more chin ups.

You’ve come a long way baby. Here I am six months into my fitness journey. I’m becoming what you might call a regular gym rat. The other day I had a fitness assessment and weigh in at the gym. I had worked hard over the week to lose weight. Tons of cardio. Caloric deficient. Slaying it at the gym 5 days in a row. The outcome was not what I expected. I lost only 1 pound and gained back 2lbs of fat. I felt like I failed. And then I felt like I failed again when I was 2 seconds shy of holding a side plank for a minute. I get my trainer wanted to push me mentally and I came short of that goal. I felt really shitty about it all the next day. My inner critic was definitely chomping at the bit. I then realized I got too inside my own head where working out and obtaining goals were becoming too stressful. It’s good to push yourself and have goals. It’s good to test your strength and gauge your progress. But it’s not good when you berate yourself. When I look at these photos I see a woman who is mentally strong not because she didn’t hold a 1 minute side plank, but because she shows up to the gym diligently and gives it her all. This is not the culmination of some 12-week Instagram shred, but 6 months of consistent training and learning the gym ropes. And hell there’s a lot of stuff to learn. So this week, I decided to take a step back and go at things a little gentler and a little slower. Get my head out of the numbers game for a bit and destress. Front raises are an excellent shoulder exercise! A couple tips for success • ❌ do not swing your arms - if you do this you’re not going to get the full benefit of the exercise since the momentum you’ve built up will takeover and you won’t have to work as hard to raise your arms • ✔️ Keep your palms facing inward and do the movement slow and controlled, raise your arms to be parallel to the ground and slowly lower them back down

Hello veins 👋 I’ve always thought when your veins are bulging out of your arms or hands it’s because you either pumped some iron or you’re dehydrated. Not saying mine are bulging but I never really noticed them before lifting weights. Well I was WRONG - it means neither! When you exercise, it increases the blood pressure in the arteries which forces the plasma from the blood to pool around the muscles. This causes your muscles to swell and harden. Subsequently, the veins are pushed toward the skin surface and they become more prominent. . p.s. dont mind for the dirty mirrors- they’re clean now!
