Who remembers when they got their first period? How did you feel? - I remember getting mine at 14 and feeling so happy because I’d been waiting for it for years! 😂 Out of all the things cis-girls go through during puberty, menstruation is THE big one. - Years later though, I’m starting to question why I feel the need to conceal my tampons + pads when shooting to the bathroom to get changed at work, or why I feel embarrassed to buy a pack of tampons at the pharmacy near my house because only men work there? - I remember my mum telling me how one of her friends always hides her period from her husband. Like for the 10+ years they’ve been married, he’s never known when she’s menstruating. A leak-stained panty, a tampon wrapper lying around, a pack of pads -nothing. He ain’t ever seen shit. - There are girls in India who are literally casted out of the family during their menstruation because they are considered dirty. So they must stay outside the house and wait for their flow to end. - I used to date a hotep once. He told me how he didn’t want to be around me during my period because it’s unclean 😂. - There is a plethora of people out there who STILL believe that periods are unhygienic. It’s literally the lining of the womb, which your arse latched onto when you were just an egg. Plus a couple millilitres of blood too. Really ain’t that deep. - But the misinformation and the constant need to attach shame to the vaginas of women is why the stigmas exist. Oh, and fucking religion too. - Decided to write a post on periods because I’m currently experiencing PMS, so it’s got me thinking. Also, it gives me low and depressive moods, so sorry if it seems like I’ve been posting less.
