The dollar store is a good place to buy small packages of medication for your emergency kits. Medication expires fast, so if you don’t use it a lot you can waste a lot of money storing it. Buy small packages from the dollar store 👍
Do you know sometimes canned food can be better than fresh? Crazy huh! Canned food is picked at it's prime, cooked a bit, and then canned. This means it looses some ingredients, but holds the rest. Most out of season fresh fruit from the store, is picked well before it's ripe, packaged, and traveled across the country. The little nutrients it had when it was picked, and typically gone before reaching the store. 1. Fresh is best when picked right from the source and used within a few days (or frozen or preserved) 2. Canned both from the store or preserved at home still hold a high quality of nutrients. 3. If you do buy fruit from the store to preserve, make sure it's in season. Happy Tuesday! What food storage projects have you been working on?
It is recommended to store 1 gallon per person per day. But, I don't agree with that. I think you should store at least 2 gallons per person per day. The reason why is: Do you like to eat? Most cooking you will need water. Do you like to stay clean? Storing enough water to wash hands, brush teeth, take a sponge bath, clean up little kids, and other personal hygiene activities is something we all rely on. Having enough water to do that will increase our happiness in an emergency situation, as well as keep the sickness away. When people say 1 gallon a day, that is minimum for drinking and cooking. But there are other necessities in life we rely on as well. The Ready Store has a water storage calculator for some quick math if you would like to use that. You will want to store at least enough water for everyone in the household for at least 3 days, but preferably 2 weeks if best. Then, if you choose to further that water storage, add in water filters and purification tablets to help clean rain water and such. Read more on the blog MESSAGE me for link or #linkinbio 👆
Storing water can be tricky, and to be honest, we haven’t even completely figured out a 100% workable way for us to easily store water. It’s hard finding space and knowing what is safe or not. The good news is, I’ve got friends. And LOTS of them! So I linked up a couple of top notch posts where you can find some great information to help you past these two water problem points. Head on over and click the link in my bio and then click "our latest blog posts" to read more about it.
I've created an 8 step ladder (our own opinion) to help beginners and advanced peppers judge where they are at on their preparedness journey, and where to go next. 1. Know what emergencies you are at risk for. 2. Emergency Binder 3. a 3 Day supply, 72 Hour Kit, or Bug Out Bag 4. A 3 Month Supply of Food Storage 5. Water Storage 6. Build an Emergency Fund 7. Use your Food Storage and Increase (and water storage) it to a 1 Year Supply 8. Become Debt Free . . . Head on over to the #linkinbio to my blog post for more descriptions and resources on each step. What step are you working on?
21 quarts of chicken breast for our winter food storage. I was asked through DM yesterday if we lived out in the middle of nowhere and if that's why I do all of us. The answer is, no! I actually live in the suburbs. I like to have food canned up and ready because there is nights I just don't feel like cooking but I don't want to spend $50 on delivery. Other times everyone's sick and I just need to be able to make something real quick. This is an easy way to make chicken noodle soup and under 20 minutes. Sometimes we even forget about something that we have to go to and this is a way to make a quick meal. It's also a good thing to have in case of a zombie apocalypse. 😂 #foodstorage #winterfoodprep #foodpantry #winterfoodstorage #quickmeals #livingonaquarter #livingonabudget #canning #canningseason #allamericancanner #presto #ball #kerr #longtermfoodstorage #3monthsupply #preparedfamily #preparedness #purposefulpantry
We have been enjoying a relaxing family reunion at a ranch in Colorado. . . . With no cell service and limited WiFi we prepared more with packing than our typical vacation. It was fun to really test out our emergency radios. . . . Do you have radios or walkie talkies for when cell service is down?
Cooking up these delicious beef bones to make some broth. When they've cooked for about 30 minutes I'll put them into a stock pot where they will simmer for 18 to 24 hours depending on how lazy I am tomorrow. I can already taste the deliciousness and I can't wait to can it and stock it for the Winter. It's almost canning season so I'm trying to get the things I can get done out of the way before I'm swamped with veggies from the garden. #beefbroth #canning #winterfoodprep #foodstorage #longtermfoodstorage #stockthepantry #stockup #prepared #preparedness #preparedfamily #winter #stockourshelves #pantry #coldseason #fluseason #preserve #canning #canningseason #urbanfarm
We are all told we need to prepare right? I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. A lot of people are preparing for the wrong things *gasp*. And now I'm gonna be honest with you... that was us! We had been preparing for emergencies for 6 years before I took this little quiz "How to Know What to Prepare For". Now, the good news is, we were preparing for the right things. But I wish we took this quiz BEFORE we started it all. . . . There's more to preparing than just natural disasters, first aid, and food storage. There's water contamination, gas leaks, loss of full or partial income, running out of food and ingredients when you can't make it to the store... stores not restocking and you can't pick up that one ingredient you really need, spike in food prices, gas prices, water prices, meat prices... SO MANY REASONS TO PREPARE . . . Head on over to my blog and learn how to do your quiz on finding the #1 thing YOU (not your neighbor, or your friend, YOU) need to prepare for.
This can be applied to anything. One of the biggest reasons I’m learning people don’t prepare is its too overwhelming or they don’t have the money. ..... breaking it down to one little item at a time, planing what you need, being selective and realizing it takes time will help you through these mind blocks.
After the 4th firework hunt. These kids each have fun looking for their favorite used fireworks. Missles, rockets and smoke bombs are hot items today.

#productreview DH & I are planning a camping trip just the two of us! We're going to backpack in and camp backwoods style. So we've decided to start trying some freeze dried meals to see what we like..(plus totally doing ER Prep planning in the process) and I thought I'll do a review on them as we go. 🔋 We got these 2 @backpackerspantry meals to try first & we are very impressed! The Jamaican style jerk rice & beans w/ chicken was really good. Like you could eat it for a meal at home good. The Creme brulee was really good too..yummy dessert on the go? Umm yes please! I'm so sold! 🍨 Both had really good flavor & so simple to make. The Jamaican jerk meal u just add boiling water, mix & let it sit sealed in the bag...the dessert u just add cold water, mix, top with the topping provided & let sit. Really great taste we will definetly be trying backpackers country again! We might even be adding it to our preps! 🌿 So tell me have u tried freeze dried meals? What's your favorite? We want to check them out!

Summer is fast approaching. That means the kids will be out of school and ready to adventure! We think camping is a great idea...just be smart about it!⠀ ⠀ 1. Do a practice run⠀ 3. Just let them play⠀ 4. Don’t stress: Remember, your attitude will rub off on your kids and if you’re excited about it, they will be too.⠀ 5. Keep them warm⠀ 6. Make it fun⠀ Remember that you are camping with your kids, not your buddies from college ;)⠀ 7. Get a decent sleeping bag⠀ Although a Mickey Mouse sleeping bag is great for Grandma’s, that’s probably where you should leave it. ⠀ 8. Bring some friends: Invite another family or two to join in the fun. ⠀ 9. Pack the night before⠀ 10. Don’t give up: getting the hang of camping with kids takes time!⠀ ⠀ For all the details, check out this neat article by @bring_the-kids : http://bit.ly/CampWithKids⠀ ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #camping #tips #bringthekids #familyfun #summer #familyadventure #preparedfamily #letsgoeverywhere #letsadventure #familycamping #outdoors
