Day 16 (August 20th) - Protect Yourself at All Times 'For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.' Ephesians 6:12-18 If this scripture seems familiar, it's probably because we shared it with you on yesterday's devotional. I decided to share it again because my family and I know first-hand the presence and reality of spiritual warfare. Without going into detail here, let me just say that the devil does not play fair. He will try to use what is normally considered off limits in a fair fight to destroy not just your life but your family as well. At the beginning of a boxing match, the referee instructs the fighters to protect themselves at all times. It's a vital instruction as one split second of putting their guard down can end the fight and potentially their career or life. Paul is giving us the same instructions in Ephesians 6. Protect ourselves (pray in the Spirit) at all times because the enemy we're fighting is not fighting fair. It is my prayer today that each of you be well equipped for the spiritual warfare battle. Tomorrow we will go into more detail about praying in the Spirit...what it is and what it isn't. Prayer Time: Just pray! Pray for your family and their spiritual strength. Don't ask God for material things. Ask for spiritual things.
