I'm not usually a fan of chocolate chip cookies but these are an exception. These Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies from @theboywhobakes are delicious. His advice is to refrigerate the mixture for 24 hours to help achieve a more caramelised taste and it really worked.

One of the best desserts I've found. Not the prettiest but definitely one of the tastiest. This Hungarian Apple Strudel from @mondaymorningcc is packed with 8 apples, apricot jam, golden raisins and cinnamon and has a delicious fine pastry. This recipe is enough to feed 20 so a great one to keep over the weekend when friends pop by.
This currant cake from Stephanie Alexander looks simple but is delicious. Packed with a lot of currants, this cake gets better the longer it sits.

Oranges are one of my favourite fruits and this Rosace a'lorange from @maryberrybakeoff is something I've wanted to make for a while now. With layers of genoise sponge, cream Patissiere and Cooke orange slices, this is a very rich dessert. Definitely a showstopper! Happy weekend baking everyone.

These are called simply Apple Cakes from Sweet Greek cookbook but they are so much more. With pecans (instead of walnuts as specified in the recipe), slithered almonds and a lemon icing, they looked and smelt delicious. This Washington currant cake was first published in 1989 by Millie Sherman and reworked by Stephanie Alexander for her book The Cooks Table. It was made for a friends mum recovering from hospital and it was apparently a hit! I look forward to trying this at home one day.
Dessert for dinner with friends. This Apple Galette from The Bourke Street Bakery cookbook @bourkestreetbakery baked with cream patissiere under a layer of finely cut apples that were soaking in lemon juice and brown sugar overnight. Cooked at 250 degrees in the oven, the apples got a char on the edges. Yum!
A birthday cake for a good friend. John @coco_the_housebuoy asked for a particular Black Forest cake as seen on Food Safari by Martin Boetz @martinboetz A very complicated cake with layers of butter cake, chocolate cake, chocolate moose, sour cherries and syrup, cream, kirsch, topped with a chocolate ganache, grated chocolate and cherries. It was nice but I'm not sure it quite lived up to expectation. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to make! Happy birthday John.

For Passover I was asked to make a hazelnut torte for my father based on a memory he had as a child eating a slice in Poland. This Hazelnut Praline Dacquoise was the closest I could find. 4 layers of Dacquoise with a hazelnut praline cream and a coffee cream topped with grated dark chocolate and roasted sugared hazelnuts.
