Random morning musings while thinking of the beautiful peepal tree canopy we saw at @tajwestend yesterday. Standing outside in my balcony this morning, I saw our resident woodpecker scare away a squirrel which happened to venture near its nest. It flew back and forth between several adorning trees before returning home: both to the nest and tree. And it struck me that I, an apartment-dweller, was watching a collection of apartment trees around me: a home of multiple homes for birds, insects, squirrels, and the occasional cat. Why then can we cut down these beautiful, majestic trees without any compunction but let these often unattractive apartment blocks still be standing in the urban space? Are not each one of us inhabiting this earth entitled to a home? Where do these creatures go after being rendered homeless? Yes, they can find other trees to make home as can we...but how will they forget the tree which they called home for so many years?
