Well I guess at this point my tomato cages will stay in the garden until spring. Most of the maple trees haven't even dropped their leaves yet. I am so not ready for winter yet.
Well I guess I'm done gardening for the year. Hope it warms up one more time because I haven't even pulled my tomato cages out yet.
Our little backyard pumpkin patch harvest is complete! One hasn't yet decided if he wants to be orange and one fell off his vine to early and doesn't know if he wants to be all orange or not. #RotterHomestead #backyardgardening #HomegrownPumpkins #NonGMO #halfacrefarming #Halloween
It's finally not 100 degrees here tonight, so got some much needed flower bed weeding done. I'll never complain about weeding around my lavender plant, it smelled so good. Just planted her last year, so glad the winter didn't kill it, but not as many flowers as last year. #lavender #RotterHomestead #urbanfarming #halfacrefarming
Came home from the cabin to tomato flowers. That's the only problem with seeding your own transplants, you have to be very patient this time of year. But I promise you, those non-gmo, organic heirloom tomatoes are worth the wait! #rotterhomestead #NonGMO #heirloom #tomatoes #Roma #organic #halfacrefarming
One of many reasons why I garden - free flowers to arrange. #Hydrangea , #Echinacea and #EnglishLavender . This was my first spring finally getting flowers in the ground, not just veggies! Don't worry, tomatoes and peppers are going crazy right now too. #urbanfarming #halfacrefarming #RotterHomestead
Just bagged up six bags of fresh dill for the gals at Ali's work. I didn't grow cucumbers this summer, and this is the dill that reseeded itself from last summer. So.....Do you need dill? I still have so much and it's perfect for picking right now. Let me know! #halfacrefarming #homesteading #nongmo #urbanfarming
What are you doing this gorgeous weekend in February? I took the opportunity to pict the rest of my carrots! These carrots here are the sweetest ever! We cover them with straw and wait for the perfect day in the midst of winter to harvest. This is only a sampling of what we harvested. #backyardgardening #halfacrefarming #carrots #harvest
It's time to plant! Garlic and Shallots should be planted now. I have 2 new varieties of garlic and 1 new shallot. (Chesnok Red hard neck garlic, Turkish Red hard neck garlic, and the French Grey Giselle Shallots, top-bottom) #gardening #halfacrefarming #garlic #shallots #greyshallots
Update: Three of the six #baobab seeds I planted from @bakercreekseeds soil have really taken off! I have three more in a wet paper towel that seem like they will eventually sprout but going rather slow. I've already repotted the larger one into a bigger pot. #halfacrefarming #experimentalgardening #gardening
Been testing out seeds for my test garden and I decided to try #cotton Specifically, Arkansas Green Lint cotton (yes, it's green!) and Red Foliated cotton from @bakercreekseeds. Can you tell which seedling is which? Did you know that they grow a beautiful hibiscus type flower before? Really excited to grow these beautiful plants. #cotton #halfacrefarming #experimentalgardening
I been away from "The Farm" for a few days and this little baby sprouted! It's a Baobab tree baby! Baobab, also called The Tree of Life, is that cool looking tree from Africa (also found in Australia) that looks like its planted upside down. They can grow to be hundreds of years old. They also bear fruit which is very high in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C. I've got two different methods of trying to germinate these seeds going at once. About 9 seeds all together to see which method works the best. #baobab #experimentalgardening #halfacrefarming #gardening
Laying mulch down in my small flower bed. We had some old newspapers so we laid some of those down first to help cut back on the weeding this summer. Newspaper was laid down 4 layers thick (not the glossy paper) and you can use old cardboard boxes for this task as well. :) #halfacrefarming #gardening #mulch
