Up Next. The Cure - Seventeen Seconds. They jettison all the pop inclinations of the debut and take the music into darker territory. While it’s not as full fledged as “Pornography”, it sounds just like what it is. A dark album recorded quickly with not much overdubbing. All the elements of what The Cure would become are present. Dark and gloomy with up tempo drum rhythms. I hadn’t heard this in a long time and forgotten about all the great gems. “A Reflection” is beautiful and haunting. “Play for Today” is a great extension. “In Your House” is my favorite, second only to “A Forest”. I really enjoyed listening to this.
