One for my dad. I started visiting the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in early 2002. Lost count of how many times I’ve visited since but I know it was ten visits in 2002 alone (I was traveling a lot). I kept track of the count until twenty visits but it got hazy after that. Pretty much anytime I’m in or near Dayton, Ohio during business hours I stop by even if it’s just squeezing in one hangar before closing time. So this image is from last week; my first visit to the museum with my father - a Vietnam Era Vet, Corps of Engineers, South Korea (DMZ). I always walk this extremely vast, world class museum by myself in silent meditation, except for that one time with @colinahester... anyway, I found myself rambling on to my dad almost uncontrollably about innumerable esoteric details specific to certain individual aircraft. Purging old archived data? My gramma, his mom, was a “Rosie the Riveter” gal during WWII. She worked the empennage line (tail assembly) for the P-38 Lightning in Pomona, California. She’s still kickin’ btw. Crazy ol’ coot that one.
