Thank you @gwinnettcountyschools. It's a Digital Learning Day! A great platform for learning at home on inclement weather days like today. I love the technology that the district has implemented to keep parents and students engaged from class dojo, text, eclass, etc. The snow in Atlanta is beautiful. #blogger #parenting #edblogger #education

I've watched parents for a long, long time. Over the years, I've noticed a few things that parents do at school. After a few years, I realized that some parents get more out of school than others. They have great relationships with teachers, principals, and school staff. They just seem more confident in tough situations. These parents get what their child needs with just a simple ask. Are these parents just blessed with good luck? Nope! They all do similar things that make them highly successful in school! It doesn't matter if where your child is academically or behaviorally. These tricks can work for ALL parents and ALL students. Do you want the secrets? I was soooooo happy to have our ZFT Run Club join me at @higherdimensionchurch today!!! We worshipped together, we ate together, and we ran together this weekend☺️. 2018 is already off to a great start!!!
She literally didn't know what to do anymore. Nothing was working at school. Everything was a battle: homework, classwork, even fun stuff like sports. Nothing was easy and everything was hard. She was tired of the struggle, day in and day out. She needed to hit refresh and restart. She needed a do-over for sure. Then she did this one thing. One thing to totally change everything. Suddenly, there was a team approach to school. She worked with the teacher to solve homework struggles and figure out where the issues were with school work. What exactly did she do? She chose not to fight everything. Instead of treating every meeting and email and phone call like a battle, she went in with an open mind and heart. She was ready to work with the teacher, no matter what had happened in the past. And that made all the difference. Are you ready to change your school story and start finding solutions that work? Let's chat! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to get started right away. In the meantime, make sure that you have your Ultimate School Success Kit. It's free and easy to use! This is awesome! When your campus need community support, what are some things you do to recruit volunteers?
What are some other things you have students do while they are waiting for their bus to arrive? Honestly, I’d like to see them do something else but we struggle with getting teachers engaged with kids during dismissal. Everyone is ready to go home😫, including me.
No, we aren’t designing arts and crafts and baking cookies all day. Click the link in my bio to find out what we really do all day.....

How do you feel about this new law passed in California? Is this something that should happen in every state? What is the schools overall role in the personal affairs of their students? (Side note: I think it’s a great idea)
And just like that, it’s over😫. If you’re still on vacay, what’s one thing you’re trying to get done before you go back to work?
I’m still all about this educator life, even though it drives me crazy at times— Check out my latest blog post to find out who I am and why I’m committed to being an educator.
2017 took so much from me. It took most of my finances, it took a bit of my hope in true and loving relationships, and it took one of my closest friends. I read an article that said 2017 was either the start of something good or the end of something bad. For me, 2017 was the end of a few bad things. This morning, I listened to @higherdimensionchurch Pastor J talk about daring to dream again. That was so appropriate and right on time for me. I am walking into 2018 ready to take back any and everything I seemingly lost in the previous year. I am ready for more joy, more peace, more love and more understanding. I am ready to reset and focus on the God dreams I was given many years ago, and I am excited about seeing things come to fruition. I am ready for true love, and I am looking forward to deepening the friendships I hold dear to my heart. Goodbye 2017 and all the negativity that came with it! Hey there 2018, let’s make this the year of WOW!
I'm gearing up for an awesome 2018. There are BIG things in store at MilKids Ed, and I can't wait to share them with you. Make sure you're subscribed and getting emails. You don't quite feel like you were on the same page as the teacher in 2017. For whatever reason, you're just not picking up what she's putting down (and vice versa). You've emailed, but you're not seeing results. Your child is still struggling: grades are low, behavior is poor, IEPs are not being followed, there's a bully situation, you just want to feel involved. It's just not going at all like how you've pictured. It's not that you haven't tried, either. You've emailed with your concerns, about grades, even to go on the field trip. But it just feels like you're being met with a brick wall. No answers, minimal responses. Even at conferences, it felt like you were meeting with the Ice Queen (or King). You weren't quite sure what to ask and didn't really understand all the things being thrown at you. Hey, it's only 10 minutes! There's a lot to digest. Now, you're heading into 2018 and you're already tired. You're already dreading the first email you need to send with a concern or about a poor grade. The meeting(s) to talk about your concerns aren't going to be a picnic either. And you still have 6 months of this grade, at least. Ugh. It's time to try something new, something different, something unique. What if there was a book that gave you a game plan for connecting with the teacher? What if you knew you would get results? Would you be in? Talk to the Teacher is for YOU! It's for the parents that just aren't connecting with their child's teacher. Talk to the Teacher can help you build that ho-hum relationship into something awesome with stepped-up, teacher-tested communication strategies for the real world. There's no sugar coating, play it nice in here, no way. Instead, you're getting done-for-you scripts, emails, and questions that are ready to be used ASAP. Just add your child's name and GO! Let it go, lay it down. Stop asking why and start asking how. How can I be and do better in the new year? How can I take the lessons from 2017 and actually apply them to ensure I don’t repeat the same mistakes? How can I make sure to live each and every day in gratitude? How can I show those important to me that I love them? How can I release those things and people not meant to join me in 2018? How can I prepare myself for the greater that is to come? Focus on the HOW.

Since high school, I’ve spent Christmas Eve weekend completing our Mademoiselle Adopt-A-Family event. I’m so glad what started in high school has expanded to be one of the signature programs for our nonprofit, The Mademoiselles Service and Social Club @mlles1960. This year, we adopted a Home for teen girls! I was humbled by the sweet spirits of all the teens there. If you’re interested in learning more about how our non-profit helps teen girls in the Houston area, please like our IG page @mlles1960 and visit our website, www.themademoiselles.org. Great start to my holiday break☺️ (it was a low bun kind of night ......)
How I act on the last day of school before a 2 week MUCH NEEDED break!!! Did I mention this is much needed?!?!?!
“It takes a long time to grow an old friend.” ..... and I’m not sharing mine 🤣!!!
“When we understand the connection between how we live and how long we live, it's easier to make different choices. Instead of viewing the time we spend with friends and family as luxuries, we can see that these relationships are among the most powerful determinants of our well-being and survival.”
I look forward to hosting Shop with a Cop every year giving deserving students an opportunity to buy items they need especially clothes. I also love the dedication from Austell Police department with Kermit Sanders Lodge 13 for making this all possible. Do you have any kids in your classroom up for this kind of challenge? ———- #Repost @blackvoices (@get_repost) ・・・ A 4-year-old from Chicago put his toys aside on Saturday and spent his time reading 100 books. Caleb Green’s parents livestreamed their son’s reading marathon on Facebook as he read each book aloud. Each time he finished a set of 10 books, he celebrated with a dance. Caleb’s dad, Sylus Green, told ABC affiliate WLS-TV that when he learned about his son’s goal, his “gut reaction [was] to talk him down a little bit but he was like, ‘No, I want to read 100.’” The family stocked up on books from their own collection as well as from friends’ bookshelves. “I like to read and I want to read some more like my sister,” Caleb told the local outlet. Green told HuffPost it took a total of nine hours for Caleb to finish, including a few breaks in between. Nearly 4,000 viewers tuned in to watch his marathon. “We were proud,” Green said. “We are used to Caleb setting goals, but it’s always the ultimate feeling to see the look in your child’s eye when they achieve what they set out to do.” Story by @_tarynitup!
She walked up to me, so very sweetly and quietly. "Here, Mrs. Flanagan. I picked this just for you." Inside the teeny little bag was an even smaller box. It was covered with colored glass and little silver beads. Inside the box were miniature clothespins. My student looked up at me with glowing eyes. "Do you like it?" I knew she had probably scraped together her allowance, carefully walked down every aisle in the store to find something beautiful and at the right price. I knew that she had wrapped it with care and love. "Oh, I love it! It is the most beautiful box I've ever gotten!" For the rest of the year, that little box sat on my desk in the classroom. Right now, it's displayed on my bureau upstairs. A reminder that the best gifts are given from the heart and the purest love comes in the smallest packages. If you're stressing about teacher gifts this year, don't. A simple card or drawing the most precious thing to a teacher. I have all of my student's cards and drawings saved. Tell me in the comments some of your favorite gifts, either one you've given or received. . #givelove #christmasgifts #teachergifts #MilKidsEd #milfam #edblogger

A new #math approach I recently took on to help my daughter struggling in middle school math is really working. Her first A since we've started this new strategy. Her teacher knew we would be so excited and sent us a photo of her holding up her math test. I know we are not alone I will share tips we implemented #ontheblog soon. The most important step was to boost her confidence in math by removing all fears. I realized it was her fear in how she was approaching math that got into her subconscious...I hope our approach will help you too. #middleschoolMom #math #STEM #edblogger #blogger #education

Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you, it will only come from within you.
Yesterday I opened up Facebook to a bunch of new posts, all asking the exact same thing: "I'm moving to a new place and I need help finding a school. Where do you recommend I check out in (XYZ)?" And all the Facebook posts had 1 trillion answers, almost all of them conflicting. This school is great! No, it's terrible. The gifted program here is amazing. Actually, it's rotten. Special education services here are super supportive, unless your child has one of these conditions. Asking Facebook for advice about where to send your child to school is the opposite of helpful. Now, all those parents have to wade through all of those responses and investigate all of those schools. They have to weigh conflicting opinions with the needs of their child. It's insanity! Can we agree to just please stop? What if there was a simpler way? What if you could compare the schools on their merits instead? There is! And it's 100% FREE!! Use the School Comparison Worksheet, exclusively found in the Ultimate School Success Kit, to quickly and easily compare schools. Using this simple form lets you cut through the Facebook BS and get right to the heart of the matter. Learn how to use the ranking sites to really see how a school is performing. Pop in your BAH and figure out where you can afford to live. Keep realistic commute times in mind, too. Everything is 100% geared to helping busy families find the best school for them, absolutely free. Now you don't need to ask Facebook this important question any more and we can all get back to posting funny memes :) . #clickthelinkinmybio #freeparentresources #ultimateschoolsuccesskit #MilKidsEd #milfam #edblogger #edcoach #educationcoach #educationadvocate #youneedthis
