All I want for Christmas is a Lemon Drop…say what? Damon Runyon is the writer who scripted a little known Christmas film that many remember for a song instead of the film. In 1951, Bob Hope starred in the film and some believe it is one of his best roles ever. The film is The Lemon Drop Kid. Bob Hope plays the Lemon Drop Kid, a two bit, down on his luck hustler who has run up too many debts with a gangster. As the film plays out the gangster wants his money back immediately and of course, the Lemon Drop Kid doesn’t have it. So Hope cons his fellow hustlers into a plan of posing as street-corner bell ringing Santas to raise money for him. Of course, mayhem ensues and creates a Christmas comedy that many don’t remember as being a Christmas film. What they do remember is the song that premiered in the film – Silver Bells. So every time you hear the words… “Silver Bells, silver bells, it’s Christmas time in the city…. Hear them ring... soon it will be Christmas day….” you are actually hearing a song from a movie with Hope! At Christmas Dreams we also offer the promise of the song with a little hope. We make Christmas dreams come true any time of year – because some children just can’t wait for Christmas.
