"Uncle Paul calls me Stinky but he's just joking": things Alamae says over and over again in hopes of it being true. Joking or not, she loves him.
Today was so lovely, and as is always the case, Rachel @brackishphotography made it look magical through her lens. I love this girl, and her beautiful family ✨✨✨✨✨✨ All 📸: @brackishphotography . . . . #thebmorecreatives #brackishphotography #asprinkleforskeeter #dccreatives #ringosgirlworkshops #dcitystyle #artistsoninstagram #abmlifeissweet #mixedmedia #artjournal #watercolor #thatsdarling #acreativedc #makeartthatsells #carveouttimeforart #illustratorsoninstagram #wherewomencreate
I shot my first wedding of the year today and my first reaction was feeling really good about the upcoming wedding season: these two were such a complete joy to meet and shoot. But really they made me excited about more than weddings or photography; they made me excited about life and possibility and all the love that's out there waiting for us to find it. I mean, do you see the way he's looking at her? 😍😍😍😍
Those long days of excitement and nerves and usually more than a little boredom. When you feel so connected to your body and yet your body is not fully your own. And you want everything to hurry up. And you want everything to slow down. Or maybe you didn't. Maybe you don't. Maybe that is just me. #annapolisphotographer #maternityshoot #marylandphotographer #familyphotographer #thatsdarling #honestmotherhood #clickinmoms #momtog #brackishphotography #dcphotographer #novaphotographer #annapolismoms

I was feeling in a creative rut but poking around other people's homes always inspires me, and @daysofmayflorals home is as good as they come. Can't wait to get the film developed to share more. If you want a beautiful flower fix, go check out her feed. It'll warm you right up.
As the new year approaches, brides (I would say grooms too, but they never contact me) are making mad dashes to find their vendors and so I'm popping in to remind folks I do love shooting love and weddings have that in spades. If you're in the market for a wedding photographer, get in touch. Let's make a date to meet over coffee or wine and talk about what's going down on your big day.
Four days old.
Alamae has an age inappropriate crush on Joey and, as a result, is deeply suspicious of @bonnienichols15
There's a certain magic that comes with exploring new light.
Joy. Love. Gratitude. This is what sustains us.
If it were up to me, mornings would be longer and the sun would hold its place in the sky where it streams in casting light among the shadows for a few more moments every day.
Times running out to book a family photo session in time for Christmas cards and gifted prints for the grandparents. I've got a pretty quick turn around time but you gotta get on the books, k?
Babies. I like 'em.
Ended a very busy weekend with a shoot with a jewelry designer my friend @meeremy set me up with (THANK YOU, ANNE). My beautiful cousin @geneva_mooradian modeled Candy's designs for us. It was both incredibly fun and deeply satisfying. I'm so wound up, I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep tonight. I can't wait to share more. #candyleedesigns
Doing experimental subtle boudoir sessions the weekend of Dec. 2/3 in my home. I'll be setting up a make shift studio. Since this is a new thing for me and I won't have to travel, sessions are an hour long and $250. Dm me if you're interested.
Sister is one of the few titles I was born in to. And it's one that will stay with me until the end of my days.
I'm technically a Millennial, but I don't feel like one, mostly because I got married before I had a cell phone, which seems significant. How is that related to this photo? Well, it isn't so much except for the fact that these two are the real deal Millennials and they're getting married. They definitely have cell phones.
I'm trying to experiment with a way of doing boudoir photography that aligns with A) my style of photography B) embodies my concept of sexiness. I wrote more about it on my blog (link in profile). If you read it and feel that some of the ideas resonate with you, please dm me so we can talk.

Today starts NaNoWrMo (National Novel Writing Month), which anyone who has been around Sena the last few months is fully aware of (she has been planning her. Over and game plan since she finished last years novel.) I won't be writing a novel, but I'm going to try to blog every day this month. The first is up on the blog (link is in the profile). I'm counting each picture as 1000 words, so I've started of pretty strong. @sarahdionne83
Teach them to find find joy and hold it close.
We're all headed somewhere.
Made of truth and poetry
I see you, Sumptin. @mlarsen86
A few pictures of my fuzzy headed youngest children in the blog (link in profile).
Remember that feeling? How the whole world stopped while you laid your head in your mom's lap? Nothing was scary. Nothing hurt. And everything was possible.
I'm hesitant to share pictures from this shoot because it's enough to make the less secure among us hate these beautiful sisters just for existing. Not that I condone that sort of behavior, but seriously, these pictures might need to come with a trigger warning.
Motherhood is my muse.
Warning: this is one of those sappy posts when I go on and on about how grateful I am. Grateful because I found a way to make a living that makes me excited. That makes it so I'm able to homeschool my kids and pay bills and meet new people and look for beauty and find truth and be outside and go new places and love more and learn and play. It feels right and good and so many of you have helped make it possible. I'm always afraid of expressing gratitude in public forums-- there are dozens of ways it could be misconstrued-- but saying "thank you" is powerful and important and humbling. I couldn't have done this on my own. I needed your help and help from above, and I've gotten it, and I don't want to take that for granted. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I've got so much work to do, but the truth is, I don't mind one bit.
Through the window
So much to know, experience, discover. She's got it all in front of her.
The magic and medicine of a mother's touch. @sparrow_wolf
Moody beach session season is upon us. More pictures and a few words on the blog.
I love faces. Their faces, specifically.
Motherhood suits you @brittielynn You are doing a damn fine job, and that beautiful, hairy baby is lucky to have you as a mom.
There are some pictures from a really special family session up in the blog. And since I'm talking about family sessions, how about I remind d all you folks in the fence about booking your own session to just do it. Not only are they kind of fun, I swear, but also because I promise, these pictures will mean so much to you, if not immediately, one day. You'll be so happy to have these moments with your people recorded.
She bosses us all around and tells us she loves us constantly. Meanwhile, I settle deeper and deeper in to the belief she is meant to be the baby of our family.
Botanist. Published writer. Stand-up comic. Cyclist. Film school graduate. Seminary drop out. And as of Saturday: wife to a handsome scientist. @_tinyframes
On our way to Savannah for a girls weekend for my 19th birthday, we wrecked my car at the South of The Border and @lauriegerrell was the only one old enough to rent a car so we could continue with our shenanigans. And if you've ever wondered about spending the night in Pedro's Pleasure Dome, it comes highly recommended.
They led the wedding party to a clearing in the woods and then they read each other Neruda and Camus and promised to love each other forever.
I love that I get to switch between love stories. Weddings are one type. Families are another.
I love the moments before. The relative calm before the storm. The party before the party with your tribe of women at your side. There is powerful feminine energy, and I like to imagine how ages of women before us did the very same thing, though their tools may have been different.
I basically became a wedding photographer by accident, thus confirming that the best things in life are unplanned, just ask Sena.
My fall schedule is starting to look busy in the best ways possible, but that doesn't mean I don't have time to take your family's pictures, at home or somewhere you love to be. Call, text, message, send a raven. Get in touch.
These moments matter.
My friends got married and it was so beautiful. So moving. So joyful. And that bouquet-- grown organically and arranged with love by @farmherbex
Lead with the heart. Every time. @agoldsmith18
These two are having a baby and I can't wait to snuggle the living daylights out of her.
I always forget to share the same information across platforms: here's two things I want you to know. 1. You should go to my blog (link in profile) to check out more pictures from this beautiful wedding. @laura.challis your wedding was as stunning as you. I was honored to be a part of it. 2. I'm on a mission to book a West Coast wedding in 2018. I want an excuse to go so I'm knocking and hoping the door will be opened. If you or someone you know is in the market for a photographer who wants to spend one of the most important days of your life with you laughing and finding the real, honest beauty in you and those you love the most, let's talk.
Their house is full of all things cool and weird and fun. And so was the birthday party I crashed a week ago. Check out my blog for more pictures and check on @pine_apple_home to see more of John and Eryka's art and design work, which is also cool and weird and fun, with a touch of mildly inappropriate 😂
Just looking for what feels.
I was going to enter the #teethkissbonus giveaway but I think it might be too late. No matter. I'm excited to spend time thinking about what makes my heart swell and to figure out all the ways to capture those images. If anyone else local-ish is thinking of purchasing it and wants to do a book club/ workshop sort of thing this fall, dm me. I like to read but class discussion has always been my jammiest. @yanpalmer
Big fat baby cheeks, I love you. -- Also, it is patently obvious this person is going to be just as smart as his parents. This is the face of a handsome genius.
Getting to document the beginning of a marriage is obviously a great honor, but I have to say, getting to be a part of the 50 year mark was something altogether inspiring.
I am never quite sure how to balance between the personal and the professional in this space. I really appreciate all the people who are really just here for the Weaver ragamuffins but put up with my plugs. Truthfully though, I don't even know how to separate the personal from the professional in real life-- friends become clients and clients become friends. Plus, I'm vain, so even when I'm telling other people's stories, I feel the constant need to interject myself in to the captions. Which leads me to two points: (1) thanks for being here. Really. From the bottom of my heart. It means so freaking much to me. (2) if you're interested in booking a session in September or October, those weekends filled up pretty fast last year so dm me if you want to book. If you and a friend book together-- I'll knock $50 off both your session fees.
If you invite me in to your home to take photos, chances are I will take a picture of your kitchen window. I don't know why I love them so much, but since when does love need an explanation. And I'm also curious: what bits of everyday life inspire you?
Being a work from home mom means spending the day at the pool with the kids and then spending your Friday night editing pictures when it's your husband's turn to take over. But with a wedding this amazing, it hardly feels like work. #ihavethisthingwithtextiles #textilelove #jungalowstyle #theknot #bohobride #radandinlove
This bride made me excited to get older. She showed me how good things can happen at any stage in life and that beauty, joy, and a good old fashioned party aren't just for the young. More pictures and more thoughts on the blog- link in profile.
Remember how awhile back I did a give away for a session that would capture the hashtag magic of summertime backyards? Well some of the images from it are up on the blog, and they are everything I hoped for. I would love to capture your family celebrating summer your way. Message me if you want to make that happen. @moonmamamermaid shared her session with her friends and it made me think that more friends could book sessions together.
I spend too much time looking at the work of my favorite photographers, and as you might imagine, that isn't doing me too many favors, that while comparison is the thief of joy thing. The truth is I'm pretty proud of what I'm doing these days, and I need to stop comparing myself to other people and making myself crazy.
I pride myself in honesty. As in life, so too in work.
It's easy to get caught up taking the pictures you feel like you're supposed to take: the styled table setting, the family picture when everyone is looking that I have failed to master, always being left with a picture full of too much personality or not nearly enough. But I spend my sessions with a voice in my ear telling me what I always knew but what I sometimes needed reminded of : "what makes you feel?" I guess it helps that I spent a bunch of money I basically didn't have at the time in a photography workshop with @yanpalmer and once you spend 💰💰💰to learn a lesson, you feel obligated to apply it. The moral of all this being: this picture makes me feel.
Motherhood contains so much light and so many shadows as well.
Shoot. I forgot that before I started weekending I was supposed to post this picture and tell you to read my blog.
Strong, smart, beautiful women are kind of my jam. And getting to photograph them on the day they get married is quickly proving to be the best career move I've ever made. I wish I felt more comfortable using the word fierce because I definitely think @laura.challis looks fierce in this shot.
This is my friend Jen. She befriended me 20 years ago. I would tell you she's been standing in this exact same pose all these years, but I just pulled out my old pictures, and I couldn't find a one where she was doing this like I imagined that she was (evidence in my stories). So I guess that means she's changed some, which she has, but she's also stayed the same in other big and meaningful ways. I wrote about it on my blog and I posted a bunch of pictures of her family, which I just happen to adore. Look at her art on her page @artbyjenpoteet . Look at her family on my blog (link in profile). And then when you're don, go buy her book. You won't regret it- pinky swear.
I'm worried I might be too sentimental to shoot weddings. I think I cried three times on Saturday shooting this one.
Tomorrow I get to photograph these two as they pledge their love for each other in front of friends and family at the water's edge. My level of excitement is pretty much through the roof-- like I'm worried I won't sleep tonight excited--which makes me fairly certain that I'm doing the right thing with my life because being this excited to go do my job, on a holiday weekend no less, is previously unknown to me. @cvalentine19 @jasonbosler I cannot wait to be a part of your day. Best of luck in these final hours. Xoxo
I'm actually kind of embarrassed by how much I like babies.
