I really didn't want to go-I was busy struggling with my thoughts/emotions/mental fatigue over last couple of days...I was thinking I would just curl up in a ball and stay there until I had to work on Monday.... Straight off the plane and headed to @kenmorebarbell barbell, it’s not so often you see a pink sandbag so mixed in some creative conditioning: sled drag + sandbag runs and @katiedund joined me! Haven’t done anything strongman medley like this for awhile, fumbled a bit on the first pick but got the hang of it quickly! I haven’t had anything real awkward happen to me at the gym in a while so I knew I was over due for a good night of just clownin around 😂, set of 3 at 155 you’ll notice I get the bar stuck under the hook and my right arm is completely locked out 🙄, viper press on my last rep I forgot what I was doing and instantly wanted to log clean so I laughed it off and finished my set, and then my overhead log walks felt really good at 122. The stronger I get the more I love how it applies to everyday life. My ability to pick things up and put them back down has little correlation to whether or not I understand more complex behaviors and information. However, the most important concept I’ve learned on my journey to “getting strong” is that nothing worth having comes easy EVER. __ Many quit when it starts to get really hard, or they don’t see progress as quickly as they did in the beginning, or everyday stressors of life and work get in the way. Picking things up and putting them down has taught me extreme discipline. It’s harder now than it was in the beginning, but I still stay extremely consistent. __ People often ask me, “how do you do it?” The truth is there are more times than not when I’d rather go to bed early than train, but I treat training like a scheduled date with myself. It is a priority so I make the time and it is MY time. Everyone has problems. I’ve never been to a therapist, simply because physical excursion IS therapy to me. It’s the one time my mind isn’t wondering in a hundred different directions. Being laser focused requires concentration and teaches you to focus on one thing at a time. — Try staying consistent for at least a year, you’ll be amazed where that type of dedication physically and mentally leads you. 📸@sombilonstudios @superleague.photos

I’m not one to repost stuff on my Instagram if it’s not me because it is my IG and I use it like a journal, however this 0:30 second video clip gave me goosebumps and was worth sharing. Watch it! __ This woman ran her first marathon at 81 and simply pretended she couldn’t hear the naysayers. We can all learn from this, IGNORE THOSE PEOPLE. Some people don’t know how to dream big or don’t even have a dream. The result? They set huge limitations on themselves. __ Ever since growing a huge set of shoulders,I can’t leave my house without comments. The same goes for people that are “abnormal” maybe you’re larger than the average person, taller, shorter, have tattoos, have fluorescent colored hair, maybe you cliff jump, maybe you don’t have a 9-5, maybe you take risks...maybe you’re your OWN person and not what SOCIETY says you SHOULD be. __ Like this older woman, I’ve learned to IGNORE people, or sometimes I even smile and thank them for being rude. __ Always be yourself, and don’t let the opinions of others make you bitter. Was in the area so had to stop by @spindellbarbell and their new stone platforms were calling my name because me and stones are like a kid in a candy 🍭 store. Stones are hands down my favorite strongman event, I remember seeing it on tv when I was younger and thinking, “I will do that someday.” Funny how that turned out! ☺️ __ The past 6 weeks I’ve been religiously following my @rpstrength template most days (not going to lie wedding season with delicious food, and a few fall beverages 🍻 have taken place on the wknds with 0 regrets). However, I have yet to miss an intra workout meal which is 50g carbs & 25g protein (I use @redcon1 cluster bomb & their protein powder) but today I forgot to pack it and I felt it. 😐Luckily @strongmangrossi was to the rescue with some BCAAs, much appreciated Joe thank you! __ I can’t stress how important and how much better getting my meal timing down has helped me feel, recover and perform. “Scary but fun” my favorite line I use to describe basically anything that I love...like 245lb 15s static front squat holds where I slightly black out, constantly stepping out of my comfort zone, and never knowing what lies ahead of me. Life can be scary at times but I make it a point to have fun and find something to smile about EVERY SINGLE DAY 🙌🏻. Lifting has taught me not to be afraid of anything because I’ll probably fail more times than I’ll succeed but as long as I keep chasing after whatever it is I want...I’ll get there, and getting there is half the fun! 🎉 __ I’ve been prioritizing recovery these past 2 weeks since I competed and just got back to seriously lifting this week which means having carbs intra workout. According to my @rpstrength template (I’m using the maintenance plan) I have 40g protein/50g of carbs intra workout so I’ve been using Cluster Bomb 💣 in strawberry kiwi from @redcon1 🍓& MRE lite in blueberry cobbler (a dairy free protein powder that’s actually good) and mixed together they taste great. There was a surprise photo shoot before @superleague.live. Thank you to @sombilonstudios for encouraging me to take off my competition tank! I looked at him and said “When I compete, I like to concentrate on my performance not on how I look and I really don’t want to do this right now.” He assured me and said he wouldn’t take longer than 2 mins and said I looked great and should wear a sports bra. I felt awkward because I don’t ever like to appear like I’m a show off, plus walking around in a sports bra just isn’t me. However, to my surprise these came out awesome! __ I was following @rpstrength for a month prior to this (weighed in at 178lbs) I cut carbs for a day to weigh in lighter and a few hours before this picture I must have consumed 2,000 calories worth of pancakes 🥞 pancakes 🥞 (even @ifbbproakimwilliams was impressed with how much I could eat) 😂 __ As I always say, if you’re an athlete carbs are your best friend, thanks @rpstrength for constantly teaching me this and forcing me to consume more than I normally would. **Before anyone comments about me hurting my back I promise it doesn’t hurt at all. What hurts more than anything is my stomach getting caught between my belt and the axle.** . . Two different grips weight at 205. I tried getting the weight up with the over under hand grip THREE times and failed. I switched back to over hand and finally get it up. I was determined to get 205 up. #bdimeztraining
170lb push press with 3-second negative. I’ve officially been off❌ of the birth control pill for 8 weeks now. I decided to get off of it because I really don’t agree with messing with my hormones and I’m at the age where I have been on the pill way too long. Feel free to agree to disagree but I think a lot of women’s hormonal issues are due to years of being on the pill. Here is what I’ve noticed so far: __ Body composition: Now I’m a true mesomorph and obviously a highly active person so the BCP never caused me to gain weight, but I did notice I was slightly less bloated once I came off of the pill. I have slightly higher natural testosterone levels than “normal” so I always took the BC pill to counteract that. __ Skin: This is the original version I went on the pill in high school— to help with my hormonal acne. I also came off BCP the same time I stoped taking aldactone (I did a 12 week course of this and this was the worst decision I’ve ever made, it cause a whole bunch of other issues). Aldactone is an androgen blocker that delivers just the teensiest bit of progestin. I KNEW both my BCP + aldactone wasn’t the best for my strength, but having clear skin was worth it to me. I still managed to place 3rd at Strongest Women in The World and have been able to compete at a high level for years so I’m VERY EXCITED to see what happens in the next year with my strength. TO MY SURPRISE, MY SKIN HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER. I’ve been dairy free for a few months now too and that certainly helped as well. __ Periods/PMS: These have been terrible, back to being extremely emotional before my period and having terrible cramps, BUT I’d rather this than to artificially mask what Mother Nature intended to happen 1x a month. I just take some Advil and suck it up. __ Overall: I honestly feel much better, generally more motivated and my energy levels are increasing (that’s actually kind of a scary thought if you know me 😂). This post is not intended to sway your mind one way or the other, just sharing my experience. @sbd.usa wrist wraps!

Competed today at Intro to Strongman 5. Leaving the competition I felt like I did poorly but after watching the videos I didnt do half bad. Definitely have lots of work to do. --Axle 120 --deadlift first attempt 250, 2nd attempt 260 fail, --yoke 300, --farmers 125 each hand --keg 125. Overall not a bad day. Very proud of my husband @the_quiet_giant for qualifying for 2019 USS nationals and happy to see 2 of my teammates for an upcoming group competition in November.
Log- 160x 7 press away on the 12”. I was craving to touch the log since America’s Strongest Man/Woman had it this weekend but didn’t want to overdo it and resisted testing a max as bad I want too! I haven’t touched a log more than 1x since beginning of March, I’ve been push pressing, strict pressing, and benching. Strongman events, as fun as they are, take a huge toll on your body. After a few years of training events consistently, I rely more on the barbell to build my strength, it’s been working well for me. __ Every Saturday for the month of October, @titanbarbell is having an open gym day from 8am-3pm, this means you can train for free and meet some awesome people. Can’t wait for the “Medley Mayhem” team contest going down 11/10, I’m not competing but I’ll be here all day and am excited to cheer on some strong teams, and meet some of my online clients in person for the first time!!! #log __ 🎼no music because Instagram doesn’t like background music sometimes 🤫

Single leg pistol squat to bench. I don’t always film a ton of accessory work or my warm ups, but I got a ton of great feedback on my single arm dead hangs from last Friday (thanks all)! So, doing my best to post more of the mundane workout stuff. Yes, I lift heavy and love to lift heavy but the majority of training looks like this, concentrating on each individual movement pattern I’m doing. With all the driving I do and my history of lower back issues, at least a few of my workouts involve a bunch of glute activation.🍑 I grew this too (never had a big butt in my long distance running days and with rowing we did so much of the same thing over and over I over compensated with my hamstrings) so yes you can grow your glutes...proper activation is key. Plus, I always wanna grow the glutes. __ Unilateral movements and proper glute activation. 2 things everyone should be adding in to their training if they aren’t already Note: I see people thinking they’re “activating their glutes” (most of us who sit for an extended period of time have this issue) but not actually doing it. Make sure you’re concentrating on the movement so that your body is able to perform proper movement patterns. Here is one of many exercises to try. __ Music:🎵 I love listening to lyrics, that’s what determines if I like or song or not most times, and @champagnepapi killed it with “emotionless” such a relatable song, favorite one on his album. I memorized both the Drake and @carrieunderwood album on my drive the other but ... I have a diverse taste in music! #glutes

It boggles my mind that the stigma of “lifting weights will make you manly” still exists. On social media, you connect with people that have similar interests and views as you do, so it may not appear that way. However, that is one of the first comments I hear along with “I just want to tone” when I’m out in the real world and covered up. When I’m at work and wearing scrubs (medical field) or dressed up for a meeting you can’t tell how muscular I am. When we get into small talk about fitness (since most of the world has fitness goals it’s something that easily starts convos) one of the first reactions I get is, “but you’re still so feminine!” 🙄 I do my part to try and give these people some facts because if you’re a female lifter, you have a responsibility to help spread this. __ I may be too big for some people’s tastes but I love my body. I started noticing my recent chest split development due to more benching, something that took years to carve. When people come to me and tell me they don’t want to get as big as me I assure them it won’t happen UNLESS they can work extremely hard for years and years. People will say things like drugs, genetics, she has the time...but I’ll tell you firsthand I simply just know how to work my ass off (or on) 🍑. Hard work is a concept I try to instill in others, I feel that some have it for a period of time and then lose it once they are hit with a hardship. Hard work & perseverance go hand in hand. __ If you do want to develop a bullet proof physique then start lifting consistently, throw in some conditioning and don’t eat like a bird. I am currently upwards of 350-400g of carbs on a hard training day with @rpstrength. Even for me, it’s hard to justify eating that much some days, but I’m able to burn the candle at both ends and food is fuel. Running to me is like hanging out with an old friend that you know you’re very different from and have outgrown, but still love them. Running was my first love, and I am in no way built for it anymore. Holding these shoulders up while swinging my arms for anything over 2 miles becomes daunting. I finished 1st in my age group and 3rd overall female with a 24:52 time. I look at this time and want to role my eyes because it is so much slower (like 6 mins) than what I used to be capable of. I have to remind myself to be happy because of how much more my body can now do, and that I still love this. I know most strength athletes think I’m crazy for loving running, but I did do it for more than half my life. I credit running long distance to a lot of my mental strength, when it hurts and your body gives up, you just run with your heart. ❤️ __ I know there will be a time in my life when I can’t strength train to the degree that I do now, and I’ll go back to running more. I’ve always wanted to do a marathon because I feel that it’s such a huge accomplishment. Running is like lifting in the sense that NO ONE can do it for you and that right there is my favorite aspect. __ Fun 5k with these two @vnessaleigh @beautyballa who also killed it, we all placed 🙌🏻Last week we had team @thetopstrengthproject out in Vegas for @superleague.live , and this week running a 5k, opposite ends of the spectrum but great support nonetheless. It’s deload week and I decided to really focus on my form with all my lifts. I also used straps with my deadlifts. It was awkward especially with the double over hand grip but after a countless number of attempts to get stripped in I think I kind of got it. I worked on keeping my ass down to. With deadlifts I have a habit of keeping my ass in the air. It’s something I’m working on. After nationals I’m going to really focus a lot on my form especially with deadlifts. Today was one of them “all my life I had to fight” days. Lol everything was awkward but I’m happy with how I trained today. #bdimeztraining

Single arm dead hangs have been something I’ve programmed in for myself (and clients who have grip events coming up cough cough Nationals) 1-2x a week for the past few months. Not only are they an amazing stretch, help decompress the spine, but the grip benefits have been amazing. 🙌🏻 don’t use small hands as an excuse because I have “baby hands” and they’ve yet to fail me. Try them!! I usually try to do 3-4 sets of 0:10 each side and switch without coming down. Can’t do them single handed just yet? Deadlift— the 5th and last movement of @superleague.live “blood”. 3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣x 24. Went wayyyyyy to light, I let fear hold me back on this one. Deadlift is by far my all time favorite movement, it’s also my worst lift and one that irritates my 3 herniated discs when not done perfectly (in comp form is not perfect). I absolutely love how simple yet difficult of a lift it is. People get too nit picky on their form and it’s literally the most animalistic lift— you pick something up. Yes, form matters but I see too many people get carried away on the minor details, just pick it up. Patience and some good old fashioned persistence and lots of the right accessory work will build up the deadlift. __ I’ve been on the “road to 500” for nearly 3 years now. Inevitably it will happen. Most things in life if you want to get better at them— you practice them. The deadlift is a risk/reward thing for me. As I’ve become more mature as an athlete, I have more respect for my body. Sometimes I deadlift every week for a few weeks and then back off for a few weeks and only do rack pulls or heavy hip thrusts. Sometimes I skip them all together and that’s OK too, it’s a much better alternative than not being able to walk. __ The saying “deadlift till I’m dead” @deadlifttillimdead is a life motto for me. When I do pull 500lbs, I’ll probably get it tattooed on me. For me, the deadlift has been the best teacher. When I was a beginner, I would worry about numbers I needed to hit in training. Now, I’m often more in a state of meditation when I’m pulling. Plus, I know how to absolutely kill it when it matters most. __ The deadlift has been one of the best teachers I’ve ever had: the blood, the broken blood vessels, bracing so hard I’ve pushed my IUD out of my uterus, the tears, the pain, and the ability to push beyond all measures, and most importantly having the patience to never give up. Sometimes I’m not sure if it’s stupidity or pure dedication but I do what makes me happy, and I ❤️ deadlift. I love what it’s done to my body and the mentality it’s helped me develop. Now that Superleague and a rep fest is done, @jailhousestrong and I are going to go back to some insane techniques🔥
“Birds of a feather flock together” I recently realized I have no good friends not in the strength/fitness world. All of my friends are from the gym, or from meeting them at fitness expos after connecting online. Throughout different stages in life, friendships come and go. __ People can become envious and jealous of your success. I used to feel like I had to justify myself. Make myself appear “lesser” simply to make someone else feel more at ease. I’ve always believed you don’t have to unscrew another woman’s lightbulb to shine. __ My physical appearance can be intimidating. It’s been hard not to become bitter when I witness women roll their eyes at me and say nasty remarks to me EVERY DAY, solely based on my appearance. I’ve heard the phrase “you are so much nicer than you look” all too often once people actually talk to me. This honestly hurts and makes me go out of my way to be nice, simply so I’m not judged. I’ll admit, I too can be quick to judge someone based on their physical appearance, BUT being judged myself so often has really taught me not to do this. __ I always feel happy after leaving a fitness expo because it’s a place where other women just get it. I’m lucky to have so many friends in the industry. We all share a similar passion and know what hard work is. It’s very difficult for me to relate to someone that just doesn’t give 100% effort. I don’t just mean for their health/fitness either. I believe in giving 100% in work, relationships and the willingness to improve yourself. __ Find people that challenge you and continue to express your individuality. Stop apologizing for who you are and what you look like and what people think of you. Luckily, I just grasped this concept. 🙌🏻You will find your tribe, possibly not within your age group or close proximity, but you’ll find them. Some days it’s not just training it’s therapy. After a really shitty day a barbell with heavy weights was exactly what I needed. I needed to release stress, worry, anger, hurt, and all my emotions from today. No matter how my day goes I can always rely on my training to help make my days better. Weighed in at 178.0. If you have been following me for awhile you see how crazy my life is—no sleep schedule (my work schedule changes weekly and it’s days/night, I’m on planes all the time, I recently started training people in person again, and I train clients online. However, I MAKE IT WORK AND HATE EXCUSES. People have children, businesses, and EVERYONE has issues, (do not let social media fool you). You need to set your priorities and schedule accordingly. Being an athlete, training, trying to sleep, and eating accordingly is not easy, but this is what I LOVE. I do not do the best job at balancing everything, but I am often amazed at how much I can do, whenever I doubt myself in anything I remind myself of what I’ve been able to accomplish. My passion is being an athlete/coach. Your passion will always give you energy. 💥 __ I didn’t have it in me to do a full weight cut with my travel schedule these past few weeks, so I committed to the @rpstrength “base” and I cut carbs today which helped me lose 2lbs of water. I wish y’all could have seen my face! I was proud as hell of this 185 press! I’m kind of sort of starting to like upper body days. Just a small bit! 😊 #bdimeztraining . . Sometimes when I go into a “normal” gym I feel lost. I walk around the gym for a good ten minutes trying to figure out how to get as close to my program as possible. Today felt good. I was only lost for five minutes 😂😂
