Do you recognize this structure? Perhaps you’ve passed it as your cruise ship sailed into port in Juneau, or seen it as you rode the Mt Roberts tram? This is the Treadwell Mine Saltwater Pumphouse. According to the Treadwell Society, this structure was built in 1914 and stood at the end of a 600-foot long pier - the ruins of which you can see as partial pilings as you walk along Sandy Beach. There are so many little glimpses into Juneau’s history, you just need to look for them.
