028. Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium (2003) Начну свой рассказ с того, как "витиевато" я вышел на этот неординарный, прогрессивный, очень сложный, сверхноваторский латиноамериканский по духу коллектив... Как-то раз давным давно, как поклонник "флойдов", полез изучать творчество Сторма Торгерсона, дизайнера, делавшего 90% всех их обложек. Зашел на его сайт и увидел, что оказывается еще куча групп "оформлялось" у него (audioslave, cranberries, dream theater, rainbow, muse, black sabbath, anthrax, genesis, styx...и пр.пр.) ...и наиболее интересные (для меня) работы были у Mars Volta. Он оформлял этот первый альбом и синглы к нему. Ну и разумеется я его качаю. Первый трек intro....и со второго мне просто-таки "сшибает колпак". Я реально слушаю с "широко закрытыми глазами"! Такой эффект я не получал не то что давно, вообще никогда. Психоделический рок, метал, джаз, нойз, фанк, блюзрок, хардкор, фьюжн, электроник-рок, хардрок, панкрок, даб, рэгги, артрок, прогрессиврок, альтернативный метал, латин рок....это малая доля того, как можно охарактеризовать эту уникальную группу. Основу ее составляют два человека, пришедшие с развалин "так себе рок-группы" At the Drive-in - это мультиинстументалист Омар-Родригез Лопез, человек явно даже не с нашей галактики, ну и Седрик Бикслер-Савала - вокалист с характерным мощнейшим артистичным голосом. Всего в группе было около 20 участников. Все альбомы группы концептуальны. Все альбомы есть в "моем списке". К сожалению они распались недавно (в 2013м), но Омар очень часто (2-3 в год) выпускает сольники. Есть у него прям ну сверхэкспериментальные, даже мне не понятные, а есть очень даже ничего. Высокобитный рип с винила ну уж очень сильно трещит, отвлекает). В "TR24" я не нашел записи(. Приходится слушать FLAC 16 bit. PS Да! В этом альбоме на басу лабает сам Flea, а в теме Cicatriz ESP - John Frusciante! ... OK, so I can't mention 'The Mars Volta' in the previous "favourite albums" post without putting forward their debut album 'De-loused in the comatorium'. Right, first things first, you need to understand this is a concept album so it is meant to be listened to from start to finished. A concept album is a ballsy move for a debut album but hey...when I discovered what the concept was then who the hell am I to argue with that???? (Review extract follows)... "The hour long tragedy takes us through the tale of a man named Cerpin Taxt, as he attempts to kill himself by ingesting morphine and rat poison. The attempt fails, and he falls into a coma for the next 7 days, in which he travels through the dream world of the Comatorium. At the end of the 7 days, he arises only to find that the world is unsatisfactory, and he (for the last time) takes his own life by jumping off a bridge. The story is based upon a friend of Cedric Bixler-Zavala [Lead singer], Julio Venegas. The event greatly impacted the lives of both Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric, and greatly influenced their music."... When I saw this band live some years ago they played continuously the entire set, the psychedelic breakdowns and Latin American rhythm is hypnotic. So much so I didn't open my eyes all set and pretty sure I was treated to an easy entrance into third eye activation. This album is not for the faint hearted, nor will it probably impress anyone without some sort of musical ability or tendencies... or not a massive Led Zeppelin fan. That being said, holy s%*t... those boys went deeeeeeeeep! (I will post the YouTube link to the album, as always 🎧)
